South Korea Skate to Gold at Lake Placid

Olympic and world champion Choi Min-jeong led home a Korean 1-2-3 in the women’s 1500m, Min-jeong adding gold to her collection of three Olympic golds and 15 world titles.

And in the men’s 1500m, its was another South Korean clean sweep of the medals as Kim Tae-sung took gold from compatriots Lee Jeong-min and Jang Sung-woo.

There was also gold for South Korea in the women’s 500m as Kim Min-sun skated to success before helping her country clinch the mixed gender relay gold. Her double gold on Thursday, took Min-sun’s tally to three for games after victory in the women’s 1000m.

Japan also tasted more gold success on Thursday to see them now sit with 17 at the head of the medal table, as we head into the final three days of action at the games.

Wataru Morishige sealed gold in the men’s 500m speed skating before Rin Sobue and Sakutaro Kobayashi claimed gold in the inaugural mixed team Nordic combined.

In the biathlon, Canada’s Shilo Rousseau landed her second gold of the games with success in the women's 10km pursuit while it was a home victory for Bjorn Westervelt as he secured men's 12.5km pursuit gold for the USA.

And there was success for Sweden in the Alpine skiing mixed parallel, who put in an excellent performance to edge out Switzerland.

Friday sees another action-packed day at Lake Placid with gold medals on the line across various disciplines, including the women’s slalom.

There is also action in cross country skiing, freestyle skiing, speed skating, ski jumping and snowboarding, plus the bronze medal game in the men’s and women’s curling.
