Pace notes caused Meeke crash

Kris Meeke's co-driver Paul Nagle has revealed that pace notes are believed to have been the cause of the Citroen driver's crash in Rally Portugal on Friday.

The pair were caught out by the same right-hander which ended Elfyn Evans' day on the first run at the Almodovar test.
Nagle told AUTOSPORT: "We think it was a problem with the pace notes, the distance before the corner was a bit too much.
"We came over the crest into a third-gear right and Kris just couldn't get the car stopped."

Nagle admitted he was hopeful of a Rally 2 return tomorrow.
"Obviously we've got wait until the team sees the car," he said, "but it doesn't look too bad.
"We dropped off the road down a bank - it was that bank that we couldn't get back up to carry on."
Meeke remained in the stage with the DS3 WRC while Nagle flew back in Citroen's helicopter.
This week's Rally of Portugal was Meeke's first attempt at the Algarve-based event and the Northern Irishman's recce was seriously handicapped by torrential rain.
Meeke's team-mate Mads Ostberg is fourth tonight, 25 seconds off the lead after taking the wrong tyres for the afternoon loop.
