Swiss skip Binia Feltscher upset home favourites Canada to win the women's World Curling title in Saint John.
Canadian skip Rachel Homan had won their play-off match but Feltscher's rink, who had edged their group stage encounter, won when it mattered, sealing the world title 9-5.
"It can’t be better – winning a world curling championship in Canada against Canada is amazing," she said.
"We were not expecting this at all. Our goal was to be placed in the top five. And a bronze medal would already have been fantastic for us. Now it’s gold and it feels just unbelievable."
But Homan, who was attempting to follow Jennifer Jones' win at the Sochi Olympics, insisted she'd be back to complete a set of world medals, after taking bronze at last year's World Championships in Latvia.
"The disappointing part was not bringing back gold for Canada, obviously," she said.
"But I’m really proud of the run we had all week. I'm just disappointed that we didn’t finish off that last game. We'll be back for more."
Meanwhile, Russia beat Korea on an extra end to win bronze 7-6.
