Heading into the match as one of only two teams with 100 per cent records so far, Sweden took on a Dutch rink that had two wins and two losses from their four matches to date.
But the game did not go to form as the Netherlands established a 6-3 lead after five ends, before going on to seal the victory 9-5 with three stones in the final two ends.
That leaves home favourites Switzerland with the only perfect record on the ice after they beat Russia 7-5 in nine ends.
The Swiss were tied at 5-5 with three ends to play, but they picked up one in each of the eighth and ninth to leave the final blanked and Switzerland alone atop the round robin standings.
Joining Sweden in joint second place are Scotland after they eased to a comfortable 8-1 victory over struggling Slovakia.
The Scots were eight up after just five ends, and when the Slovaks could only draw one stone back in the sixth, the contest was ended early.
Making it a trio of teams with four wins and one loss are Norway following their 8-5 win over Italy.
The Netherlands are now joint fifth, alongside Germany – who beat Austria 8-3 in St Gallen – while Italy are tied for seventh with Russia.
