Former Giro d'Italia winner Pavel Tonkov has left Italian team Lampre to sign with CCC-Polsat. The 34-year old Russian said he chose the Polish side because of their promotion to first division.

Tonkov, who won the Giro in 1996, has won six stages in the Tour of Italy including last year's 17th stage between Corvara in Badia and Folgaria. He also has two Vuelta stage wins to his name.
The veteran Russian is CCC-Polsat's biggest signing in a squad of 17 mostly homegrown riders.
