Jan Kopecký, the winner of the 2013 FIA European Rally Championship, is returning to the series that helped to make him a star when Barum Czech Rally Zlín gets underway on Friday.
Kopecký is undefeated on Czech soil since April 2015 and is bidding for a seventh Zlín win in the factory ŠKODA FABIA R5 he shares with co-driver Pavel Dresler.

But while he has an edge over his fellow Czech drivers, the ERC regulars will be a different proposition as Alexey Lukyanuk proved in 2016.

“Last year I had a thrilling fight with Alexey Lukyanuk and I had to go flat out all the time to win this rally,” said Kopecký, a 12-time ERC winner. “I am really looking forward to an interesting challenge and want to add win number seven on the Barum Czech Rally Zlín to my track record.”

Kopecký and Dresler start in Zlín on the back of finishing second in class on Germany’s round of the world championship last week. They secured a third consecutive Czech title after winning Rally Bohemia in early July, their fifth domestic victory from as many starts in 2017.
