Werder Bremen’s Miroslav Klose could face a ban from the German FA after he was caught on camera kneeing an opponent in the abdomen during a German cup game against Pirmasens.
The German international escaped initial punishment for his attack on Pirmasens player Sebastian Reich, but TV replays caught the incident.
Klose apologised for his moment of madness after the game, but he still could face some time on the sidelines if the German FA decided to act on the incident.
It was just one aspect of a terrible day for Werder Breman, as they lost on penalties to the regional side after a 1-1 draw.
Ivan Klasnic had seemingly saved Breman's blushes when he equalised for the Bundesliga side seven minutes from time, but Pirmasens survived extra-time before sealing the win in the shoot-out.
Bremen also had captain Frank Baumann sent-off in extra-time for a second bookable offence in what was a forgettable day for Bundesliga club.
