Pires wants Metz return

Robert Pires wants to leave Villarreal for former Metz - but not until the end of next season. The former Arsenal star said he was considering a return to the side with whom he spent six top-flight seasons in the 1990s.

"I'm thinking about it. But I'm going to be clear - in 2007/08 it will not be possible. We will talk about it again in April 2008.

Injury has restricted Pires to just four games for Villarreal since leaving Highbury last summer, and he has already been linked with a move elsewhere.

If the move goes ahead, the attacking midfielder will be nearly 35 by the time he pulls on a Metz shirt again.
