Walcott started in a central attacking role in the FA Cup final against Aston Villa in May and scored the opening goal in a 4-0 win.
Arsenal stuck with the Francis Coquelin-Santi Cazorla combination which impressed in the second half of last season with Aaron Ramsey at right midfield and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain filling in for the missing Alexis Sanchez on the left.
Jack Wilshere was unable to make the squad due to an ankle injury.
Chelsea’s most notable selection was Loic Remy in attack with Diego Costa missing with a hamstring injury.
"After that he was training normally and we thought he would be ready, but this morning he was feeling uncomfortable," said Jose Mourinho.
Radamel Falcao made the bench though - along with returning forward Victor Moses, who has impressed in pre-season - and January signing Juan Cuadrado.
