Eggert and Benecken collect World Cup title

There was double success for Germany in Sochi as Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt became European champions while Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken claimed World Cup glory.

The final World Cup race of the season doubled up as the European Championships and a year after they claimed Olympic gold on the same track, Wendl and Arlt were once again climbing the top step of the podium.
Heading to Russia the German pair had won three silver European medals but finally claimed the gold, coming home in 1:39.559 minutes.
The runners-up where Austrians Peter Penz and Georg Fischler 0.295 seconds further back, while third spot was taken by Latvians Andris and Juris Sics.
Despite finishing in seventh place, Eggert and Benecken claimed enough points to collect the World Cup title.
Over the 12 races Eggert and Benecken collected 1071 points, with Wendl and Arlt second on 1055 and the Sics brothers third on 749.
