It was an Austrian sandwich at Beaver Creek for the men's slalom: Benjamin Raich came first with a combined time of 1:51.06 and compatriot Rainer Schoenfelder was third in 1:51.55. The filling? A slice of Giorgio Rocca from Italy, clocking in at 1:51.27.

Benjamin Raich won the opening slalom of the men's World Cup season on Sunday after a big mistake on the second leg relegated his Austrian team-mate and race leader Rainer Schoenfelder to third.
Schoenfelder, the defending World Cup champion, had a lead of 0.11 seconds after the first leg on the Birds of Prey course but skidded sideways as he negotiated a gate on the second run, losing valuable time.
Raich, second after the opening leg, finished with a total time of one minute 51.06 seconds, 0.21 seconds ahead of Italian Giorgio Rocca, after a flawless second run.
Schoenfelder clocked 1:51.55, 0.15 seconds ahead of fourth-placed Kalle Palander of Finland.
Overall World Cup leader Bode Miller of the United States went out in the first leg after straddling a gate pole. This followed his crash in Saturday's first leg of the Giant Slalom event.
The most unexpected performance of the day came from Sweden's Andre Myhrer who, starting 56th on the grid for the first run, finished in fifth position, having at one point led the overall standings.
