There will be no women's World Cup alpine skiing action at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, with the mild weather forcing this weekend's races to be cancelled by the FIS. The news was released in a social media statement on Monday morning, and while a replacement venue was sought, the time constraints meant this could not be sourced. This is the latest in a series of cancellations this season.

Highlights: Odermatt moves closer to World Cup success with ninth win of season

Unseasonably high temperatures have led to the cancellation of the upcoming World Cup races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen this weekend.
The German resort was due to host a women's downhill and super-G race on Saturday and Sunday respectively, but the mild weather has forced FIS Alpine to remove the races from the calendar.
An FIS Alpine statement read as follows: “Women's Audi FIS Ski World Cup races in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) cancelled.
“This is to inform that due to the high temperatures and therefore unfavourable snow conditions the scheduled women's Audi FIS Ski World Cup races on 3rd-4th February 2024 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) are cancelled due to safety reasons.
“FIS worked on a potential replacement for the two races on the same dates as originally planned, but due to time constraints, no solution was found.”
This is the latest hit to the alpine skiing schedule, with the two downhill races scheduled to take place in Chamonix, France also cancelled.
However, Sunday's slalom race is still scheduled to take place as planned.
The current warm weather is in complete contrast to the heavy snow which put paid to the women's Super-G event in St. Moritz last month, while similar conditions forced the men's slalom event to be cancelled in Val d'Isere.
Marco Odermatt enjoyed a memorable weekend on the course after securing his ninth World Cup victory of the season in Sunday's super-G race.
The 26-year-old remains top of the overall World Cup standings in bid to claim a third consecutive title, leading Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin by 722 points.
On the women's side, Lara Gut-Behrami took two super-G wins in Cortina d'Ampezzo to close the gap to Mikaela Shiffrin in the overall standings.
