Manuel Feller wrapped up the World Cup slalom crystal globe despite racing in Kranjska Gora being cancelled.
The penultimate race of the calendar was called off due to torrential rain in Slovenia, meaning Feller's lead at the top of the standings was now unassailable with just one race remaining.
Feller has been in dominant form throughout the World Cup and sits 169 points ahead of Linus Strasser atop the slalom standings, with the Austrian also second in the overall standings behind runaway champion Marco Odermatt.
"It's amazing, but at the moment it's a little bit hard to recognise, as everybody wanted it decided on the slope, but the advantage over Linus was pretty high," Feller said. "But still in slalom, anything can happen. You can say the opportunity was taken from Linus, but you can also say that the emotions were taken from me."
The Austrian also spoke about how he achieved that consistency throughout the season.
“The key has been already built up step-by-step over years,” added Feller in quotes published by fis-ski.com.
“We've been working on some things that have gotten better and better over the years. My stable upper body and of course routine was a big point over the years, and this season.
“And of course the material has been working amazing. Both my serviceman Richie (Weissenbacher) and also my company Atomic has done a really good job. I changed my skis before Gurgl and that was probably one of the biggest keys to this amazing success.”
Feller will now head to the final race of the calendar in Saalbach as the slalom champion, but will have his sights set on ensuring a second-place overall finish. - - -
