'I'm retiring… For good!' - Tom Brady calls time on legendary NFL career at second attempt

After going back on his original decision to retire in 2022, Tom Brady has decided to finally call time on his stellar NFL career. Brady made his name for the New England Patriots, winning six Super Bowl championships before adding another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021 and then returning to the latter after his initial retirement. He posted his announcement on social media.

NFL legend Tom Brady has announced his retirement "for good".
The 45-year-old, widely regarded as the greatest player in the history of the sport, originally announced his retirement in 2022 but then reversed his decision to play for another year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, following their season-ending play-off defeat to the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Brady has now decided to bring to an end what was a truly legendary career.
"Good morning, guys. I'll get to the point: I'm retiring. For good," he said in a video posted on Twitter.
"I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning, I figured I'd press record and let you guys know first.
"It won't be long-winded. You only get one super-emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year.
"I really thank you guys so much. To every single one of you for supporting me. My family, my friends, my team-mates, my competitors... I could go on forever, there's too many.
"Thank you, guys, for helping me live my absolute dream. I wouldn't change a thing. Love you all."
Brady made his name with the New England Patriots, who he joined in 2000, leading them to a historic six Super Bowl championship wins in the 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016 and 2018 seasons.
He was named the Super Bowl MVP (most valuable player) in four of those wins.
He ended his 20-year association with the franchise in 2020, signing a two-year deal with Tampa Bay, who he helped to another Super Bowl success in his first season, again being named the MVP.
The 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs made him the most decorated player in Super Bowl history with seven wins.
