Kluft scoops top award

World heptathlon champion Carolina Kluft was handed the Bragdguld award as Sweden's sportsperson of the year on Tuesday. "For double golds won with magnificent versatility, strength in crises and inspirational joy," the judges said in a statement.

The bubbly 20-year-old completed the third best heptathlon in history when she set six personal bests in seven events on her way to 7,001 points at this year's world championships in Paris.

Earlier in the year, Kluft won the world indoor championships in Birmingham, England.

The Bragdguld award is given each year by the Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet and is widely regarded as the most prestigious award in Swedish sport.
