Dina Asher-Smith 'really not happy' after finishing eighth in 100m final at World Athletics Championships

There was joy for American Sha’Carri Richardson as she won 100m gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. The 23-year-old finished ahead of Jamaican duo Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, while Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith was "very disappointed" to come eighth, saying that she felt in the "shape of my life" ahead of the event.

Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith was at a loss to explain a “very disappointing” display as she finished eighth in the 100m final at the World Athletics Championships.

American Sha’Carri Richardson won gold with a championship-record time of 10.65 seconds.

Asher-Smith clocked a time of 11 seconds after also scraping through her semi-final.

“I’m really not happy with that,” she told Eurosport about her run in the final.

“I’m disappointed, I feel like I’m in the shape of my life so to come and run that I was very disappointed.

“I felt really good, normally when I feel good things just come like that, so I am very disappointed.”

Asher-Smith will now get ready for the 200m heats on Wednesday.

Richardson took victory ahead of Jamaican duo Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

The 23-year-old, running in lane nine on the outside of the track, made a late burst to claim the gold.

“I feel amazing, I feel like hard work pays off,” she told Eurosport.

“I have been dedicating myself, keeping my faith strong this season, and believing and knowing whatever you practise is what you put forward, and I am grateful.

“I just felt that I executed an amazing race for myself. I was by myself in lane nine, I was in my own world, it’s been like that my whole life, so being in lane nine was perfect for me to do what it is that I know to do, and to focus on myself.

“When I celebrated it was because I felt like I did my best, no matter what the result was going to be.”

Richardson will look to do the double as she also runs in the 200m.

“We [are] not done yet,” she added.

“We have the 200m, blessed to be able to double here. I am happy and now I am going to the 200m.”

Fraser-Pryce’s bronze medal saw her make history.

She is now the most decorated Jamaican athlete at the World Championships with 15 medals, passing Usain Bolt.

“Usain is in a category by himself, but it’s good to be mentioned in the same line as Usain,” said Fraser-Pryce.

“For me it’s just showing up and competing and knowing there is more to give, so I work hard at that.”
