Toney wins split decision

James Toney struggled to edge out a split 10 round decision win over Danny Batchelder at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

The veteran 38-year-old former world champion was judged the winner on two judges scorecards 98-92 and 97-93 while the third official scored the bout for Batchhelder,96-94.

Toney, 70-6-3-(43), failed to impress local fans with his ponderous and often negative display while Batchelder for his part, at least tried to make a fight of it.
