Tansey was on a good run of just one defeat in 11 outings (which came in his first pro bout) before serious injury robbed him of a bright boxing future.
After going under the knife, Tansey will get back to punching for pay when he appears on the VIP Promotions card which also features Amir Khan’s brother Haroon, Tyson Fury’s cousin Dempsey, and Shea Neary’s son James Metcalf.
Speaking about the rotator cuff injury that almost finished his career, Tansey said:  “I’ve had two major surgeries and it’s been a nightmare.  Hopefully now I’m over it.  I’m still getting niggles but I think that’s just part of training.
“It’s really affected me because boxing is a huge part of my life.  But I’ve stuck with it and I’m really looking forward to the show.  I can’t wait to feel the nervous energy, get back in there and feel ring-sharp.  It’ll be a good show, Steve [Wood] always has decent bills and it’s magic that it’s being streamed live on the internet on VIPBOXING.TV.”
If ‘Rocky’ does come through his Wigan test then he is looking for a big 2014 to make up for lost time. The 31-year-old knows the importance of momentum in boxing and he is looking to get up a head of steam before adding to his belt collection as the year draws to a close.
“I’d like to fight for the English title. That’s my next goal; I won the British Masters in my last fight and I’ve been out for nearly two years, so I need a couple of fights to get back and then let Steve see what he can do.  It’s do-or-die for me in the next couple of years and I need to stay busy.”
Promoter Steve Wood said: “It’s great to have Warren back. Many people would have given up but he has persevered and hopefully there’ll be a happy ending for him.  He was doing really well before the injury so if he can get back to that kind of form then the future looks bright.
“This Wigan show should be really entertaining. Amir Khan and Ricky Hatton will be ringside and I’m looking forward to seeing how Haroon, James Metcalf and the other lads perform.  Former British champion Gary Davies also makes a comeback and he is a real puncher so should be in a great fight.  If you can’t get to the show then watch live and free on the internet on VIPBOXING.TV.”
Also in action at the Robin Park Centre will be Liverpool's James Metcalf, Ryan Vaughan, Steven Lewis, Adam Ismail and Phil Smith; St Helens' Gary Davies; Middleton's Liam Taylor and Blackpool cruiserweight Matty Askin.
