Half-centuries by Scott Styris and Stephen Fleming - in his record 194th game as one-day captain - plus three wickets from Shane Bond - were enough to overcome their opponents.
Styris put on 86, adding 108 runs for the fourth wicket with Fleming (80) to lift the Kiwis' score to 274 for seven after they were - typically in this tournament plagued by poor batting surfaces - asked to bat first.
Fast bowler Bond then took three for 45 as Pakistan were bowled out for 223, despite fighting knocks from Mohammad Yousuf (71) and Shoaib Malik (52).
Pakistan struggled at the beginning of their innings and were 83-4 before Yousuf and Malik added 96 for the fifth wicket.
But once Yousuf fell, their innings quickly unravelled, with paceman Bond taking 3-45 from his 10 overs.
The result leaves Pakistan needing to beat South Africa in their final group game to qualify for the last four.
New Zealand finish Group B with two wins and a defeat and top the table.
The result effectively eliminates Sri Lanka from the competition, as they can no longer qualify for the knockout stages.
