India sealed a 3-1 win over England in the two sides' five-Test series.
The hosts recorded an innings victory in the fifth Test with Ravichandran Ashwin bowling his side to their win with a five-for.
Before that, India had moved 2-1 ahead in the series after claiming a huge victory by 434 runs in the third Test at Rajkot.
The hosts responded superbly after losing the opening match, with Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten 214 and an England collapse dealing a major blow to Ben Stokes' side.
In the second Test in Vizag, India drew level behind a trio of stellar performances.
Jaiswal stamped his arrival as a true Test player with a brilliant double-hundred while Shubman Gill chipped in with a ton of his own, with Zak Crawley netting a pair of 70s for the visitors.
With the ball, Jimmy Anderson continued to defy the laws of ageing but it was Jasprit Bumrah who was the real star of the show, finishing with figures of 9-91 including a number of other-worldly balls.
In the opening Test, England secured a historic comeback win in what was one of their greatest-ever away victories.
Stokes' side enjoyed a 28-run victory over the hosts in Hyderabad, becoming the first team ever to win a Test in India having trailed by 190 or more after the first innings.
Ollie Pope delivered with the bat in the second innings for England with a masterful 196, while debutant Hartley finished with 7-62 to stun India.
Stokes revelled in the victory and said it was the "greatest triumph" of his stewardship of the team as captain.
