India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a show on the opening day of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam as he produced an unbeaten 179 for the second century of his career and highest-ever Test score. England debutant Shoaib Bashir impressed for the tourists as he dismissed India captain Rohit Sharma in the first of two wickets. The second day gets underway from 04:00 UK time on Saturday.

Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a dominant display at the crease for India and produced an unbeaten 179 as the hosts closed the opening day of the second Test on 336-6 in Visakhapatnam.
Shoaib Bashir impressed for England on his debut as he took two wickets, including the first of the match to dismiss India captain Rohit Sharma.
A new-ball partnership of James Anderson and Joe Root gave England a controlled start but India looked comfortable at the stumps early on.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sharma opened the batting for India and racked up 41 runs before England found their first wicket of the match, which was a special one.
Debutant Bashir claimed his maiden test wicket when Ollie Pope caught Rohit Sharma for 14. The 20-year-old lured a nick off the India skipper who was well caught by a reactionary Pope at leg slip.
Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal at the crease as India ploughed on and made another 44 runs for 85-1 before Gill was dismissed. James Anderson forced an edge off Gil as Foakes pounced behind the stumps.
Jaiswal continued to bat well and struck a monstrous maximum into the upper tier of the Visakhapatnam stadium on the on-side before a mis-field in the deep off the next ball earned him a four and his half-century.
The teams headed in for lunch with India 103-2 and England the happier of the two teams having wrapped up a couple of valuable wickets on a pitch that suited the batters.
Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer continued their partnership and the former reached the century mark at 173-2, latching on to a Tom Hartley delivery and lumping it straight into the crowd for a well-timed six - his third of the innings.
Following his sensational seven-wicket haul in the opening Test to steer England towards a historic victory, Hartley got off the mark in the second Test for a much-needed breakthrough for the tourists.
Foakes was alert once again to catch Iyer out behind the stumps for 27 following another nick off the bat.
India were 225-3 when the teams headed in for tea as England struggled on the flat surface, and the hosts primed for a strong finish in Visakhapatnam.
Rajat Patidar had continued India’s effort alongside the unbeaten Jaiswal before he became England’s fourth victim after he was bowled by Rehan Ahmed for 32 following an excellent top-spinning delivery.
His partners continued to fall but Jaiswal continued to battle on the dream batting surface and struck his 150th run with a dismissive cover drive for 272-4.
India went 300 up as Jaiswal and Axar Patel put together a 50 partnership, but that was swiftly put to an end as England stole a couple of late wickets.
The first came when Patel was caught by Rehan Ahmed as Bashir took his second wicket of the day, before he caught Srikar Bharat.
India closed the opening innings of the first day in the second Test for 336-6.
