West Indies beat England by four wickets

It has been the Shai Hope show in Antigua, and West Indies have produced their second highest run-chase in One Day International cricket and the biggest chase seen at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium to win the first game of the series.
England batted reasonably well without taking full advantage of a fast start, but they have come unstuck with the ball, with Sam Curran conceding the most runs ever by an English man in this format, finishing with 0/98 from his 9.5 overs.
What a performance from the West Indies captain and what a win for the home side, completed with seven balls to spare.
For England, that is not the way they wanted this post-World Cup tour to begin. The soul searching starts all over again for Buttler, Mott and Co.

West Indies 326-6 (Hope 109, Joseph 2) Overs: 48.5

Shai Hope wins it for West Indies in a brutal 49th over.
England turned back to Curran, but he must be struggling for confidence after a torrid run of performances. And the left-armer misses his yorker by some distance second up, with Hope slamming the full toss over long-on for six.
Curran follows it up by pushing the ball wide – it’s risky, but Hope had backed away and can’t make contact.
However, the West Indies skipper certainly makes contact with the fourth ball of the over, picking up the length and carving another six over long-on. That’s Hopes century, his 16th in the format.
And Hope finishes the job in style, smashing a third six of the over to wrap up the win for his team.

West Indies 307-6 (Hope 91, Joseph 1) Overs: 48

Runs Required: 19, Deliveries Remaining: 12
Romario Shepherd’s brutal knock comes to an end as he heaves across the line, fails to make contact with Atkinson’s full and straight delivery and is struck right in front. He reviews, but there’s no reprieve and he departs having hut 48 from 28 balls.
Joseph gets off strike first ball to give his captain the chance to get stuck in, but Atkinson does a terrific job, going for just five runs off the over.

West Indies 302-5 (Hope 87, Shepherd 48) Overs: 47

Runs Required: 24, Deliveries Remaining: 18
England are getting ragged and all of those insecurities from the World Cup campaign are coming back to the surface, even with half of the team having changed.
The ball slips out of Carse’s hands first up and is cut away wildly for four. And that is a sign of things to come as runs flow in the over.
A second full toss is hit to the boundary with beautiful force by Hope, and he follows it up by hammering a short ball over the deep midwicket boundary for a maximum.
West Indies are clear favourites now.

West Indies 285-5 (Hope 76, Shepherd 42) Overs: 46

Runs Required: 41, Deliveries Remaining: 24
Atkinson is trying all sorts here, and keeps things relatively tight at just the time his team needed it.
The final ball of the over is called as a leg-side wide, which infuriates Jos Buttler. He calls to review the wide decision, which after a debate is withdrawn.
The ball had struck the glove but dropped short of Buttler, which means he was right to be aggrieved.

West Indies 280-5 (Hope 74, Shepherd 41) Overs: 45

Runs Required: 46, Deliveries Remaining: 30
This is a very tough day at the office for Sam Curran. A full toss is miscued horribly by Shepherd but loops over the in-field and then runs away for four.
And Hope smashes a huge slow-sweep over the rope to make it 15 runs off the over.

West Indies 265-5 (Hope 64, Shepherd 36) Overs: 44

Runs Required: 61, Deliveries Remaining: 36
Atkinson gives Shepherd a gimme first up with a leg-side full toss that is flipped for four.
And West Indies are gifted some free runs as Atkinson is called for a couple of wides late in the over.
This game is right in the balance.

West Indies 255-5 (Hope 61, Shepherd 32) Overs: 43

Runs Required: 71, Deliveries Remaining: 42
Here we go. Sam Curran is back and he gets some serious treatment from Shepherd.
The over begins with a four, but Curran slightly misses his length next up and sees an almighty six thud into the second tear of the stand down the ground.
Another swing across the line yields another giant maximum. That’s a huge over for West Indies just when they needed it.

West Indies 236-5 (Hope 60, Shepherd 14) Overs: 42

Runs Required: 90, Deliveries Remaining: 48
Shepherd starts Carse’s over with a huge six, but Carse keeps things tight for the rest of the over.
Shai Hope brings up a career landmark, passing 5000 ODI runs for West Indies. And he’ll need a few more to get his team over the line here today.

West Indies 225-5 (Hope 57, Shepherd 6) Overs: 41

Runs Required: 101, Deliveries Remaining: 54
Rehan Ahmed completes his tenth over and keeps things tight, going for just five runs from it.
That means he finishes with outstanding figures of 2-40 – comfortably the pick of the numbers on both sides today.

West Indies 220-5 (Hope 52, Shepherd 1) Overs: 40

Runs Required: 106, Deliveries Remaining: 60
Sam Curran comes back into the attack for the area in which he specialises – the death overs.
He almost has Shepherd midway through the over, hitting him in-front with a cutter. The finger goes up, but a review saves the batter with the ball sliding down the leg side.
A wide catches out the DJ in North Sound as he goes too early with the mid-over rhythms, before a single finishes off the over.
It’s a big ask for West Indies to win from here, but while Hope is out in the middle they will still have… hope (I know, I know. Sorry).

West Indies 215-5 (Hope 52, Shepherd 1) Overs: 39

Runs Required: 112, Deliveries Remaining: 66
Hope opens up his arms and smashes a full delivery from Rehan for a straight six to bring up his fifty. West Indies are launching their late blast now – it was pretty much now or never given the state of the game.
Rehan sees Rutherford ready to line him up for a huge hit, rolls out the googly, and strikes the new batter in-front. It’s sent upstairs for a review and West Indies breathe a sigh of relief as DRS says the ball is bouncing over.
It doesn’t matter much though, Rutherford goes for a huge heave off the next delivery and sends it miles into the air, with Brook taking the catch out on the boundary. Three balls faced, one six, one DRS review, out. Sherfane Rutherford provided plenty of entertainment in his all-too-short spell out in the middle.

West Indies 206-4 (Hope 45, Rutherford 6) Overs: 38

Runs Required: 120, Deliveries Remaining: 72
A big Hetmyer inside edge misses the off stump and leaves Buttler with no chance as it disappears to the boundary.
Atkinson gives a rueful smile, but he gets his man later in the over, bowling a slower ball that is skied to Carse at long leg. Hetmyer has to go for 32 from 30 deliveries and that could be a decisive blow for England.
Rutherford comes to the crease, meaning there’s no lack of left-handed firepower at the crease. But West Indies need something big here.
And he starts in style, cranking his first ever ODI delivery back over the bowler’s head for six. Wow.

West Indies 194-3 (Hope 45, Hetmyer 26) Overs: 37

Rehan Ahmed returns to the attack and immediately turns the screw. It’s a terrific over, just four singles come from it.
That’s drinks, with West Indies requiring 132 from 78 balls with seven wickets in hand.

West Indies 190-3 (Hope 43, Hetmyer 24) Overs: 36

It’s another ten-run over as Atkinson returns to the attack.
A poor misfield from Curran handed West Indies their one boundary of the over, and the required rate drops ever so slightly to 9.71.

West Indies 180-3 (Hope 40, Hetmyer 18) Overs: 35

Livingstone continues, firing in darts that are proving tricky to get away.
That’s the end of his ten overs, and he finishes with figures of 1-50 – very handy indeed for England.
Livingstone getting through ten means that we may not see Will Jacks with the ball in hand today.

West Indies 175-3 (Hope 36, Hetmyer 17) Overs: 34

A pulled four off the final ball of Carse’s seventh over sees Hetmyer try and let loose.
The batters are finding it tricky to get the ball away here, with Carse taking pace off the ball well.
That boundary means ten runs come off the over, keeping the rising required rate in check.

West Indies 165-3 (Hope 33, Hetmyer 11) Overs: 33

Hope and Hetmyer have had quite enough of Livingstone getting through these cheap overs.
Hope slams a terrific six off the second ball of the over, muscling it back over the bowler’s head.
And Hetmyer, batting without a helmet against the spinner, sends another back over Livingstone’s head, bouncing once before crossing the boundary.

West Indies 153-3 (Hope 26, Hetmyer 6) Overs: 32

Carse cranks up the pressure, taking the pace off the ball as the required rate keeps on climbing.
Just three singles come from the over.

West Indies 150-3 (Hope 25, Hetmyer 4) Overs: 31

Livingstone’s eighth over goes for just two runs and the required rate is now up over nine an over.
This Hope and Hetmyer partnership perhaps holds the key for West Indies.

West Indies 148-3 (Hope 24, Hetmyer 3) Overs: 30

Brydon Carse replaces Curran in the attack and makes an immediate impact. It’s a cross-seamer that skids on and it strikes Keacy Carty straight in-front.
Carty discusses a review with his skipper, but they opt against it, and he departs for 16 from 39 balls – the opposite of an eye-catching knock.
Carse almost gets Shimron Hetmyer next up, again getting one to stick in the pitch that the new batter chips just out of the reach of Ben Duckett.
A slower ball is completely missed by Hope late in the over and strikes him on the pad, but England think it’s not quite right, maybe high, and opt against the appeal.

West Indies 144-2 (Carty 16, Hope 23) Overs: 29

Livingstone gets through another over, his seventh, as this steady middle-over phase continues.
The partnership is 38 runs from 62 balls, which isn’t setting the pulses racing but might be taking this game deep.

West Indies 141-2 (Carty 13, Hope 23) Overs: 28

That’s better from Curran, who mixes things up and keeps the scoring rate down, conceding four off the over.
West Indies know that they have explosive hitters to come, but still require 183, so it’s about these two getting that required number down before taking too many risks.

West Indies 137-2 (Carty 12, Hope 20) Overs: 27

Livingstone continues and sees a poor ball second up sent to the rope by Hope.
It’s good intent from Hope, with Carty bedding in at the other end.

West Indies 130-2 (Carty 11, Hope 14) Overs: 26

England opt to try and get through a few more overs of Sam Curran during this period where West Indies are looking to rebuild.
The left-armer was expensive early on and sees a pudding of a slower ball sent to the boundary off the first delivery of his return spell, but he recovers well, going through his variations and keeping things tight.

West Indies 125-2 (Carty 11, Hope 9) Overs: 25

Hope has bided his time and slams a shot back past the bowler that has the non-striker and umpire both diving for cover.
It’s a terrific shot and takes the attack back to Livingstone, who was getting through too many cheap overs.

West Indies 120-2 (Carty 11, Hope 4) Overs: 24

Carty relieves the pressure as a wayward delivery from Rehan is swept away to the fine leg boundary.
Six runs come off the over, but the required rate is climbing all the time through this spell. It’s a balancing act for the West Indies between keeping wickets in hands and trying to up the rate.

West Indies 114-2 (Carty 6, Hope 3) Overs: 23

Livingstone rattles through another over as West Indies struggle to rotate the strike.

West Indies 112-2 (Carty 5, Hope 2) Overs: 22

The spinners are turning the screw and Rehan bowls the very first maiden of the match.
He had Carty playing down completely the wrong line off the last ball of the over, very nearly catching the edge.

West Indies 112-2 (Carty 5, Hope 2) Overs: 21

England are getting through their overs fast as Livingstone rattles through another set for just three runs, all in singles.

West Indies 109-2 (Carty 3, Hope 1) Overs: 20

Rehan continues and turns a big one past the outside edge to complete an excellent over. Hope did well to stay in his crease as Buttler takes off the bails in a flash.
The innings is in a fascinating state, needing a rebuild after a strong start – just as England found themselves a few hours ago.

West Indies 106-2 (Carty 1, Hope 0) Overs: 19

Spin has done the trick for England. Livingstone fires one in and King sweeps all around a straight one to depart for 34 from 44.
That’s useful from Livingstone, who has a knack of picking up key wickets and is really useful for England with his ability to spin the ball both ways – not that this one turned a great deal.
Shai Hope comes out to the middle with his team requiring a rebuild.

West Indies 104-1 (King 34, Carty 0) Overs: 18

It’s a first wicket of the innings and it’s Rehan Ahmed who gets it. Athanaze looks to sweep a googly, but it skims under the bat and crashes into the front pad. The finger goes up and the batter opts not to review – wisely, with replays showing it would have been upheld.
England’s 19-year-old leggie has made the breakthrough and it was much-needed too. Athanaze departs for 66 from 65.

West Indies 103-0 (Athanaze 66, King 33) Overs: 17

England turn to Liam Livingstone’s tweakers and his first ball is swept to the boundary.
How West Indies go after Livingstone and Jacks in this game could be key to their chances of chasing down 326.
Athanaze finishes with a swept boundary as Livingstone switches to the off-breaks against the left hander.
That’s the 100 up for West Indies.

West Indies 94-0 (Athanaze 62, King 28) Overs: 16

Rehan continues to probe, and the West Indies opener see him out. It's a wise strategy, given that there are easier scoring options elsewhere in the attack.

West Indies 92-0 (Athanaze 61, King 27) Overs: 15

Athanaze brings up his 50 with a slashed cut for four. That’s his second half-century in ODIs – maybe the second of many for the youngster.
He follows up with two more fours in the offer to put some pressure on Carse as the over goes for 13 runs.

West Indies 79-0 (Athanaze 48, King 27) Overs: 14

Rehan rolls out the googlies, but one is picked up by King and he sweeps it for four.
West Indies’ strong start to this attempted record chase continues apace, and there's a terrific atmosphere in Antigua, where the travelling fans are definitely getting into the spirit.

West Indies 71-0 (Athanaze 46, King 21) Overs: 13

King gets in on the act with a big six, latching on to a Carse short ball and sending it soaring onto the bank.
The openers play out the rest of the over as their impressive start continues.

West Indies 62-0 (Athanaze 45, King 14) Overs: 12

Line and length is good from Rehan Ahmed at the start of his spell, although there’s not much turn just yet.
The West Indies openers see out his first over.

West Indies 59-0 (Athanaze 43, King 13) Overs: 11

Carse has bowled tidily at the start of his spell and continues well as the pace of scoring slows slightly.
Rehan Ahmed is warming up and it looks like we're going to see some early spin.

West Indies 55-0 (Athanaze 41, King 11) Overs: 10

Athanaze has a go after Atkinson and clears the field with a hook shot that runs away for four.
And he finishes off the over with a huge six that brings up the West Indies 50 at the end of the first powerplay.

West Indies 45-0 (Athanaze 31, King 11) Overs: 9

England have seen enough of Curran and on comes Carse.
He starts with a nice opening over that yields just three, with two of those coming from a miscued shot that very nearly found the hands of mid-on.

West Indies 42-0 (Athanaze 31, King 9) Overs: 8

Atkinson has been the better of the two opening bowlers and concedes just a single off another decent over.

West Indies 41-0 (Athanaze 30, King 9) Overs: 7

Curran finds a little bit of control and almost gets a wicket as he lures an edge out of King, but there’s no slip and it flies away to the boundary.

West Indies 37-0 (Athanaze 30, King 5) Overs: 6

Alick Athanaze is off to a terrific start in Antigua and crunches another four, this time off Atkinson.
West Indies will be very happy with this start to their chase of 326 – a target that would be a record on this ground.

West Indies 33-0 (Athanaze 26, King 5) Overs: 5

This isn’t great from Curran, who serves up a gimme at the start of the over that Athanaze gratefully tucks away for four off the pads.
It was his efforts with the ball that were so disappointing during the World Cup, and Curran has, unfortunately, picked up where he left off.

West Indies 26-0 (Athanaze 19, King 5) Overs: 4

Atkinson has started really nicely and goes for just the one run, a wide, from his second over.
It’s nice from Atkinson, who quietly had a decent World Cup amidst the chaos around him.

West Indies 25-0 (Athanaze 19, King 5) Overs: 3

Athanaze opens and closes Curran’s second over with boundaries, the first flicked fine for four and the second driven through point.
It’s nice batting and Curran shakes his head as he walks to his fielding position at the end of the over.

West Indies 17-0 (Athanaze 11, King 5) Overs: 2

King strokes a beautiful drive through the ring to find the rope.
That’s a lovely shot that takes the shine off what was a decent first over from Atkinson.

West Indies 11-0 (Athanaze 10, King 0) Overs: 1

Sam Curran takes the new ball for England and looks for some early swing.
It’s a decent first over up until he oversteps, and Athanaze takes advantage of the free hit by slamming it for six.
11 runs come off the over.

17:20 - INNINGS BREAK

West Indies require 326 to win this first ODI against England in Antigua.
The innings got off to a blistering start as England’s re-jigged side began life after the World Cup in top gear, with Phil Salt and Will Jacks getting the team off to a flier.
Jos Buttler was the only member of England’s top eight not to get a start, but only Harry Brook was able to go past 50, putting together a good partnership with Zak Crawley to rebuild the innings before kicking on to 71 from 71 balls.
Important late contributions from Sam Curran and Brydon Carse lifted England beyond 300, which could be a challenging target on a pitch that saw inconsistent bounce and a bit of turn.
Gudakesh Motie finished with the pick of the figures with 2/49, while Oshane Thomas bowled well through the middle overs to take 2/57. Romario Shepherd (2/77), Alzarri Joseph (1/65) and (1/76) completed the bowling returns, as West Indies used just the five bowlers across the 50 overs.

England 325 Overs: 50

Rehan Ahmed has a big swing and smashes a six off Tottenham back down the ground. That’s not where he was aiming, but he got so much on it that it went for six anyway.
He follows up with a similar attempt but skies it and Thomas takes the catch off his own bowling. Rehan departs for 12 from 8.
Atkinson is the last man in, but he defies that billing with a lovely shot first up – a lofted drive that clears the ring and races to the boundary.
Atkinson goes for a big hit off the final ball but skies it and it’s a catch in the deep. England are all out off the final ball for 325.

England 313-8 (Carse 31, Rehan 4) Overs: 49

This is excellent death bowling from Joseph. He keeps things tight for the penultimate over, going for just singles to keep England’s likely total down.

England 307-8 (Carse 29, Rehan 1) Overs: 48

Curran opens up a Cariah over with another huge six down the ground to bring up the 300. This is the sort of batting display that persuaded England to, perhaps misguidedly, promote him up to seven at one stage during the World Cup.
Curran’s flurry comes to an abrupt end though as he’s run out for 38 from 26, but that’s a significant contribution and a good bounce back from the all-rounder.
Rehan Ahmed strolls out to the middle. Cariah finishes with 76/1 from his ten overs.

England 299-7 (Curran 32, Carse 28) Overs: 47

It’s a good response from Shepherd, who almost gets Curran as a swipe across the line is edged fractionally wide of the stumps. That over’s brought the likely total down a touch, but England have done well to get up to this 300 area.

England 291-7 (Curran 26, Carse 27) Overs: 46

Carse goes big again, getting plenty of willow on a six over midwicket.
Curran drives for four more and Carse finishes the over with a superb drive down the ground. Joseph is struggling to keep a lid on the scoring.

England 274-7 (Curran 20, Carse 16) Overs: 45

This pair are doing a nice job for England, and Curran goes big down the ground, slamming Thomas for six.
Carse gets away with a feather of an edge off the final ball as Hope can’t quite get fingers to what would have been a great catch behind the stumps.
England are getting up towards a competitive score here, on a surface that has some inconsistent bounce for the quicks and some turn for the spinners.

England 264-7 (Curran 13, Carse 13) Overs: 44

Carse finds the rope again with a nice drive through the off-side.
West Indies are striving for a breakthrough but are slightly losing their line in the process. Joseph fires a wide down the leg side to illustrate exactly that point.

England 256-7 (Curran 12, Carse 7) Overs: 43

Really nice from Sam Curran, who picks up two fours, batting in sunglasses, oddly.
England roll along, with their sights set on potentially getting up to 300.

England 246-7 (Curran 3, Carse 6) Overs: 42

Carse hits a big six down the ground, going after the spin over Cariah.
That’s a statement from the big man, and England will know that they have plenty of hitting ability in this tail, even if the recognised batters are all back in the hutch.

England 239-7 (Curran 2, Carse 0) Overs: 41

Brook goes for another big shot and his innings comes to an abrupt end as he slices a drive to Joseph on the edge of the circle.
That’s a key wicket and a deserved one for Shepherd, who has come back well after his tricky start to the innings, and caught Brook out with a clever slower ball there.
England’s task is now to try and bat out the overs and get up to something decent if they can.

England 236-6 (Brook 70, Curran 0) Overs: 40

Brook’s cuts superbly for four off Thomas, but very nearly falls to the next ball as he smashes one in the direction of Athanaze.
He’s been the pick of the fielders today and almost holds on to a blinder, but grasses it.

England 232-6 (Brook 66, Curran 0) Overs: 39

Livingstone gets in a right tangle as one keeps low from Shepherd and is struck on the pads. He reviews but that’s plumb and Livingstone has to depart for 17 from 19.
The lack of bounce on that was really tricky Livingstone to handle and will have caught the eye of the England attack, who will be hoping for more such inconsistent bounce in the second innings.
It was little surprise to see Livi review. He seems to send everything upstairs, and the three reds send him packing.
Curran comes to the crease at No. 8, kicking off a series that could be really significant for his international future, in this format at least. He’s a lock in T20s, but in the 50-over format he has plenty to prove after a stinker of a World Cup.

England 227-5 (Brook 61, Livingstone 17) Overs: 38

Here goes Brook. Cariah has been excellent today, but he’s forced off his line by some very aggressive batting from the England man, who is looking in really good touch now.
Brook makes room to slog-sweep for a maximum off the first ball of the over, and then latches on to a shorter delivery next up to hit Cariah for four.
It’s good from Brook, and Livingstone decides it’s time to get in on the action too.
If you were to picture two Livingstone shots it would be these, opening up his stance and muscling a six down the ground, and then heaving across the line to found the stands at cow corner.
That's the biggest over of the game so far.

England 204-5 (Brook 50, Livingstone 5) Overs: 37

A huge six from Brook lands on the bank to get the England fans cheering.
And the No. 5 brings up his fifty off the next delivery with a deft dink down to third man.

England 196-5 (Brook 43, Livingstone 4) Overs: 36

Motie gets through another safe over.
There’s more good news for West Indies as Shepherd comes back onto the field after receiving a bit of treatment in the last few minutes.

England 193-5 (Brook 42, Livingstone 2) Overs: 35

Joseph continues as West Indies look to turn the screw.
England play him out for just a single and things have steadied a little bit. The run rate is now at 5.5, well down from their blistering first ten overs.

England 192-5 (Brook 42, Livingstone 1) Overs: 34

Buttler goes and that’s a big wicket for Motie. The England captain attempts a reverse sweep and gloves one up in the air to Athanaze at first slip. He departs for 3 from 13 and his poor run continues.
The players take drinks as Livingstone comes out to the crease. He’s another player in need of a bit of confidence after what was a horrible World Cup with the bat in hand.

England 190-4 (Brook 41, Buttler 3) Overs: 33

West Indies bring Joseph back into the attack knowing that this is a crucial partnership to break.
Brook sends Buttler back from another attempted quick single, wisely so, and his captain gives the thumbs up.
Buttler very nearly chops on from the final ball of an over that goes for just two runs. Tidy.

England 188-4 (Brook 40, Buttler 2) Overs: 32

Motie stays on to get through these spin overs quickly. He goes for just a single as Buttler gives himself a few to get in.
This is a big series for Buttler, who underperformed spectacularly with the bat in the World Cup.

England 187-4 (Brook 40, Buttler 1) Overs: 31

Brook has a bit of responsibility now after that run out and steps up with a beauty of a four off Thomas, driven down the ground.
That’s comfortably Brook's best shot today and keeps England ticking over.

England 183-4 (Brook 36, Buttler 1) Overs: 30

Oh wow, that is a mess! Crawley and Brook get their wires crossed and it’s the simplest of run-outs. Crawley called for the single and set off, but Brook was having none of it. Crawley doesn’t even get back in shot on the replay as Athanaze fields well and the keeper whips off the bails, and he is absolutely fuming as he walks off.
Crawley might be fuming, but with a fielder of that quality in the ring it was always going to be an extremely tight single. I’m not convinced Brook would have made it.
That wicket brings Buttler out to the middle.

England 180-3 (Crawley 48, Brook 34) Overs: 29

This is really nice cricket from England as Crawley and Brook keep things ticking over as Thomas returns.
He gets one to keep low and skid into the pads of Crawley, but that was always sliding down and Hope wisely opts not to review.

England 178-3 (Crawley 47, Brook 33) Overs: 28

Brook pulls out the reverse sweep but doesn’t quite get the contact he’s looking for. There’s a hint of a chance for King at first slip, who is close to getting a hand to it at full stretch.
Cariah continues to make the ball talk, but Crawley and Brook are doing a nice job for England in getting through this challenging phase of the game. There’s a real platform being set for both this pair and Buttler, Livingstone and co to potentially exploit at the back end.

England 170-3 (Crawley 46, Brook 26) Overs: 27

Motie gets through another quick over as the game rattles along.

England 167-3 (Crawley 46, Brook 23) Overs: 26

Crawley goes for a huge attempted sweep and misses it completely. The West Indies close fielders hold their heads in their hands – that was close to getting an edge.
Cariah finds an inside edge off the next ball that darts between the back foot and the stumps and Crawley survives.
The leg-spinner is causing Crawley some serious issues here.

England 163-3 (Crawley 44, Brook 21) Overs: 25

Motie is back in the action as West Indies look to get through their spin overs during this middle phase.
He’s getting some nice purchase, but is undermined slightly by a horrible misfield from Carty that hands England a four and brings up the fifty partnership for Crawley and Brook.

England 158-3 (Crawley 43, Brook 17) Overs: 24

Brook gets the over off to a decent start with a late cut for four. This is a big tour for him, coming on the back of the news that he was released by his IPL franchise.

England 152-3 (Crawley 42, Brook 12) Overs: 23

Nice from Shepherd as he takes the pace off and causes England a few issues - leaking some runs but perhaps showing the way forward for the pace attack.
The 150 is up though, and England will be comfortable enough with things as they are. The scoring rate has slowed slightly, but not to a level that will prevent a big total being reached here.

England 144-3 (Crawley 35, Brook 11) Overs: 22

Cariah is ticking here. He conjures another chance with a flighted beauty that turns out of the rough, catches the edge, and flies through the gap between a diving keeper and first slip.
It’s beautiful bowling and tricky for the England batters right now, but the watching English spinners will be paying close attention, not least the youngster Rehan Ahmed.

England 141-3 (Crawley 33, Brook 10) Overs: 21

A steady over sees England play out another set of six from Shepherd with minimal risk.
This pair are ticking things over after England got off to a flier in the first powerplay, thanks in no small part to Phil Salt.

England 137-3 (Crawley 31, Brook 8) Overs: 20

A huge let-off for Crawley after another big four, this time smashed back over the head of the spinner.
He heaves across the line and skies Cariah straight to Motie, who puts down a simple chance. He’d back himself to catch that 99 times out of 100, it’s a bad drop.

England 128-3 (Crawley 24, Brook 6) Overs: 19

Shepherd comes back into the attack to give Thomas a bit of a rest. His opening spell was expensive, very expensive, and his decent over ends on a disappointing note as Crawley cuts him superbly to the boundary.

England 121-3 (Crawley 19, Brook 4) Overs: 18

England have no need to race along at this point, and the rebuild continues as Crawley and Brook keep things ticking over against Cariah.
The match is nicely balanced at this stage.

England 118-3 (Crawley 18, Brook 2) Overs: 17

Crawley crunches a beauty of a boundary through the covers to take the attack back to Thomas.
That was a little bit wider from the bowler and he pays the price.

England 110-3 (Crawley 12, Brook 0) Overs: 16

Brave captaincy from Shai Hope as he turns to more spin despite what statisticians would say is an unfavourable match-up against the left-handed Duckett.
Yannic Cariah starts with some beautiful flight and loop and he gets the breakthrough, responding well to another reverse sweep four by Duckett to arrow one in at the stumps and leaving Duckett looking a bit silly as a scoop attempt goes wrong.
It’s good bowling, but you can’t be too harsh on Duckett – this is his strategy against spin, it’s part of why he was picked. He departs for 20 from 23 and England now need a bit of a rebuild after their rapid start.

England 105-2 (Crawley 11, Duckett 16) Overs: 15

Duckett gets a bit lucky as he gets tucked up attempting a hook off Thomas and edges narrowly wide of the keeper.
Brilliant fielding from Athanaze means no further runs come off the over as Thomas continues to build pressure.

England 100-2 (Crawley 10, Duckett 12) Overs: 14

That is vintage Zak Crawley as he creams a drag down through the covers for four.
He gets a bit luck next up with sliced shot over the top that lands short of the outfielders, and that single brings up England’s 100 in quick time.

England 92-2 (Crawley 4, Duckett 11) Overs: 13

This is a really nice start from Thomas, who finds a good line to concede just a single off his second over.

England 91-2 (Crawley 3, Duckett 11) Overs: 12

Motie has switched ends and is immediately met with a sweep assault from Duckett.
Anyone who has seen Duckett play spin before would have seen this coming, and the England man pulls out back-to-back reverse-sweep fours to put the pressure back on the left-arm spinner.
Crawley gets off the mark and then keeps the strike with a single off the last ball of the over.

England 79-2 (Crawley 0, Duckett 2) Overs: 11

The end of the first powerplay is the signal for West Indies to call on Oshane Thomas.
He’s got all of the skills to be a superb middle-overs bowler if this is how the selectors wish to use him going forward.
He starts well, conceding just a single off his first over and finishing with a beauty that has Crawley raising his eyebrows in surprise.

England 78-2 (Crawley 0, Duckett 1) Overs: 10

It’s another breakthrough and a reward for Joseph who has plugged away well in the face of that opening onslaught. The right-arm quick gets a ball to leave Will Jacks from short of a length, drawing the edge and sending the other opener back to the pavilion for 26 from 24.
That’s exactly what the West Indies needed after that rapid start. England’s openers have done their job with a fast start, but both will be slightly frustrated not to have kicked on.
Ben Duckett joins Crawley out in the middle and gets off the mark with a nudged single.

England 77-1 (Jacks 25, Crawley 0) Overs: 9

The first breakthrough comes for West Indies and it’s Motie who gets it. Salt opens up and tries to slam the spinner through the covers, but doesn’t make decent contact and spoons a simple catch to Carty to depart for 45 from just 28 deliveries.
Zak Crawley plays out the rest of the over, surviving one slight scare when he under-edges a sweep past the stumps.

England 76-0 (Salt 45, Jacks 25) Overs: 8

Joseph changes ends and forces a rare play and a miss. But a misfield gives Jacks another boundary to keep the score ticking over.

England 70-0 (Salt 44, Jacks 20) Overs: 7

West Indies turn to spin and it’s a wise call, something needed to change.
Five wides means that the score keeps on ticking over for England, but the batters immediately look more wary against the slower ball.
That's a nice start from Motie.

England 59-0 (Salt 42, Jacks 16) Overs: 6

The boundaries keep on coming as Salt drives for four, but there’s a first scare for the openers as West Indies appeal for a catch behind. The ball flicked the pad rather than the edge and Salt survives, and he follows up with a huge pull for six to bring up England’s 50 in just the sixth over.
He beats the in-field with the last shot of the over, finding the rope again.

England 43-0 (Salt 26, Jacks 16) Overs: 5

Huge from Salt as he hoiks Joseph across the line for six.
Salt is slightly fortunate that a ball that dies a little on the surface doesn’t catch an edge, but the opening pair's confidence isn’t shaken by that inconsistent bounce, and Jacks pulls the last ball of the over to the boundary to keep England rocketing along.

England 32-0 (Salt 20, Jacks 12) Overs: 4

The runs keep on flowing as Jacks creams another sublime four. The pair see out the over as Shepherd tightens up his line.

England 25-0 (Salt 18, Jacks 7) Overs: 3

This is a superb start from England and exactly what was envisioned from picking this opening pair. Jacks gets in on the action with a beautiful lofted drive for six. He holds his pose on the follow-through, knowing just how sweet that shot was.
And, in good news for fans for technology, DRS is back in action.

England 19-0 (Salt 18, Jacks 1) Overs: 2

It’s Shepherd who takes the new ball with Joseph, with Thomas held back for a bit of first-change firepower.
Will Jacks gets off strike in his fifth ODI for England with a single, and Salt keeps the momentum going with a huge hook for six and follows it up with a peach of a drive through the covers for four.
There’s a brief pause mid-over as the umpires talk to the two teams to let them know that DRS is currently unavailable.

England 8-0 (Salt 8, Jacks 0) Overs: 1

Joseph starts right on the money with three dot balls, moving the ball around nicely off a length.
But Salt lines up a slightly fuller delivery and smashes a one-bounce four to get England up and running, and then adds a second boundary with a fortuitous thick inside edge down to long leg.

13:30 - How to watch West Indies v England?

TNT Sports is available across all major TV platforms, offering a line-up of up to four TV channels (TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports 2, TNT Sports 3, TNT Sports 4), and up to six digital or red-button channels (TNT Sports 5 to 10), and TNT Sports Ultimate plus TNT Sports Box Office HD.

13:25 - NEW-BALL FIREPOWER FOR WEST INDIES

The decision to try and get Oshane Thomas back up to international standard is a fascinating one. The West Indies pacer is a real x-factor player if he can get it right, and will form part of a fearsome pace unit with Alzarri Joseph.
The home side have picked two specialist spinners who will hope for some new-ball wickets to give them pressure to work with through the middle overs.

13:20 - CURRAN AND LIVINGSTONE’S CHANCE FOR REDEMPTION

It was a poor World Cup for a number of England players, but arguable none were as disappointing as Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran. The pair are young enough and talented enough that they could potentially be involved in the next World Cup, so England have given them both a chance to get right back to it and prove that they’ve got the chops for ODI Cricket.
The end of Moeen Ali and David Willey’s ODI careers means that there are two short-term slots open in the team, and Livingstone and Curran slot straight back in to those.
Having those two a place lower at seven and eight feels like a much-better balance than what they were asked to do during the World Cup, but it’ll be interesting to see how they go, particularly later on with the ball.

13:15 - ENGLAND’S NEW-LOOK XI

The four players to miss out from the England squad are Ollie Pope, Tom Hartley, Matthew Potts and John Turner.
The balance means that we’ll likely see Liam Livingstone and Will Jacks sharing the fifth set of ten overs later on today, but first up it’s a chance for a new-look top order to have a crack at the West Indies.
It’s all about power at the top of the order with Will Jacks and Phil Salt tasked with getting the team off to a flier ahead of a strong-looing 3-6 of Crawley, Duckett, Brook and Buttler.

13:10 - TEAM NEWS

West Indies: 1 Brandon King, 2 Alick Athanaze, 3 Keacy Carty, 4 Shai Hope, 5 Shimron Hetmyer, 6 Sherfane Rutherford, 7 Romario Shepherd, 8 Yannic Cariah, 9 Alzarri Joseph, 10 Gudakesh Motie, 11 Oshane Thomas.
England: 1 Will Jacks, 2 Phil Salt, 3 Zak Crawley, 4 Ben Duckett, 5 Harry Brook, 6 Jos Buttler, 7 Liam Livingstone, 8 Sam Curran, 9 Brydon Carse, 10 Rehan Ahmed, 11 Gus Atkinson.

13:00 - TOSS NEWS

England have won the toss and Jos Buttler chooses to bat first in Antigua.

12:55 - A NEW ERA FOR WEST INDIES

The home side are also looking to move on from a poor recent run in ODIs. Failure to automatically qualify for the 2023 World Cup was compounded by a dismal performance in the qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe last summer, meaning that the West Indies missed out on both the World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
So this ODI series is very much the start of something new, as they look to build a new side with an eye on qualifying for the next World Cup.

12:50 - ENGLAND MOVE ON

England’s World Cup could barely have gone worse. But for captain Jos Buttler and coach Matthew Mott, it’s about putting that experience behind them and looking forward to next year’s T20 World Cup and then the Champions Trophy in 2025.
This match is the start of that ODI build-up towards the 2025 Champions Trophy and the next World Cup cycle, and it’s important for the players involved too – England have to wait until September for more chances to play ODIs after this tour as things stand, so there’s a real chance to lay down a marker here.

12:45 - HELLO AND WELCOME

It’s time for a new ODI era. England’s One Day International reboot begins today on TNT Sports as Jos Buttler’s new-look squad begin their tour of the Caribbean in Antigua.
There will be some new faces as England look to move on from their World Cup debacle against a West Indies side who are also at the start of their own reset. I’m Tom Bennett and I’ll bring you live coverage right here throughout the day.
Team news is on the way, with the first ball due in 45 minutes’ time.
