VAN VLEUTEN TAKES THE RED JERSEY

The World Champion may have lost the sprint but she has achieved exactly what she wanted for the day, taking the overall lead with a 1:11 advantage over Vollering going into the final stage tomorrow.

Top five GC: Van Vleuten, Vollering (+1:11), Markus (+1:23), Labous (+1:58), Reusser (2:11).

GAIA REALINI WINS STAGE 6 OF LA VUELTA FEMENINA

It's the first World Tour victory of the 21-year-old Italian and she played it absolutely perfectly all day long.

She's congratulated by Amanda Spratt as she can't quite believe what she has achieved.

What a stage!

BIKE THROW ON THE LINE

Incredible two-up sprint from the leading duo and neither of them celebrated!

We'll have to wait for the photo finish.

1KM TO GO - VAN VLEUTEN TO LEAD IT OUT

Will Van Vleuten go early in the sprint? Can the small Italian take a wonderful victory ahead of one of the sport's finest?

We're about to find out in the final kilometre.

2KM TO GO - WILL WE SEE OUR FIRST NON-DUTCH STAGE WINNER?
Can Realini pull off a surprise and beat the World Champion?

3KM TO GO - COOPERATION BEHIND

Vollering has DSM and Canyon SRAM riders also coming through to the front to aid the chase and take some of the workload off of her SD Worx teammates.

Van Vleuten and Realini still have a 1:17 advantage.

5KM TO GO - VOLLERING LOOKING FOR HELP IN THE GROUP
Reusser is giving everything she can for her team leader but the red jersey holder is trying to persuade as many teams as possible to come and take a turn on the front and reduce the advantage of the leading duo.

14:16
8KM TO GO - REUSSER WORKIN FOR VOLLERING

The virtual lead for Van Vleuten as it stands is still over a minute ahead of Vollering. The time gap is decreasing consistently to the leaders however.

10KM TO GO - GAP TO VOLLERING DECREASING

The race leader has done well to limit the damage from a time disadvantage that was approaching the two minute mark.

Her group has the trio of chasers in sight and should make contact with them before the finish.
14:11
11KM TO GO - REALINI LOOKING GOOD

It's a hard enough job sitting in the wheel of Van Vleuten but the 21-year-old has looked fantastic at the head of the race.

Will the Italian be able to stop Van Vleuten from taking her 99th professional victory?
14:07
14KM TO GO - VAN VLEUTEN GIVING EVERYTHING

The World Champion is maximising her gains and putting all of those extremely long training rides and hours in the saddle into action.

Group two on the road containing Labous, Muzic and Magnaldi are bleeding time to the third group on the road, perhaps regretting their decision to not follow Van Vleuten at the intermediate sprint.
14:02
18KM TO GO - 50 SECOND ADVANTAGE FOR AVV AND REALINI

We're heading down into Laredo with Van Vleuten and Realini continuing their pursuit of the stage victory.

Wonderful opportunity for the young Italian, but how can she overcome the Dutch legend of the sport.
13:59
21KM TO GO - FINAL DESCENT OF THE DAY

Realini has sat in nicely and let Van Vleuten pull her along on the climb. The World Champion took a further ten QOM points on the summit and now leads that classification on 28 points.
13:52
24KM TO GO - 2.5KM FROM THE SUMMIT

The leading duo is on the final climb, with Van Vleuten still driving it and Realini settling into her wheel.

Group two on the road: Magnaldi, Labous and Muzic are just over 30 seconds behind, with Vollering leading group three 1:45 behind.
13:47
26KM TO GO - VOLLERING SETS OFF SOLO

It's now or never for the current race leader and she's still got a serious amount of work to do if she's to stay close to Van Vleuten.

She had taken a chance to recover in a group of dropped riders, but has now gone off the front to try and salvage her overall standing.
13:39
29KM TO GO - REALINI SETS OFF IN PURSUIT

The Italian is noticing the danger of letting Van Vleuten go and has decided to go out and catch her.

Ridiculous show of strength from the young Italian to bridge the gap in such quick time.
13:36
31KM TO GO - VAN VLEUTEN INTO THE VIRTUAL LEAD

Van Vleuten puts on the power before the only intermediate sprint of the day, kicking away from the other four leaders, who had no interested in challenging her.

She took the maximum six bonus seconds on offer, moving her ahead of Vollering even without the current advantage on the road.
13:34
33KM TO GO - FULL COOPERATION IN FRONT GROUP

It's not only Van Vleuten who will benefit from Vollering falling down the general classification standing, the whole group out in front will want to extend their advantage over the rest of the race.

Muzic, Magnaldi, Realini and Labous are all happy to help the World Champion before the final climb.
13:29
36KM TO GO - RIDERS HITTING 80KM/H DOWNHILL

Van Vleuten took all 10 QOM points over the summit of the first climb putting her equal with the current leader in the classification, Elise Chabbey (Canyon SRAM).
13:26
40KM TO GO - VOLLERING ALMOST 2 MINUTES DOWN

She's got not help and will need a real miracle to come back to the front group. This will be a huge test of her mental strength as she tries to bring back the World Champion.
