No change in the overall standings as the race favourites cross the line together in a select group.

Movistar's Benat Intxausti attacks the main pack in a bid to get back into the top 10 with some seconds over his rivals.

Danilo Di Luca (Vini Fantini) looked to have fourth place sewn up, but he's caught by some of the other escapees and it's Sky's Salvatore Puccio who crosses the line for fourth.
0km
Stefano Pirazzi (Bardiani) takes third place and some vital blue jersey king of the mountains points some three minutes down. He'll be frustrated not to have got the win because he was clearly the best climber in the break.
0km
Navardauskas ripped up that final climb. Daniel Oss (BMC) crosses the line for second place more than a minute down.

Victory for Ramunas Navasdauskas of Garmin-Sharp. The Lithuanian points to his team sponsor and raises his arms aloft as he takes a memorable victory.

Navardauskas enters the final kilometre of this climb - the win is very much in the bag.
2km
Hesjedal is informed of the situation by his team car and he clenches his first - a win for his team-mate is a sweetener after his travails.
3km
While Navardauskas rides on the front of the race, Garmin team-mate Ryder Hesjedal is off the back of the peloton. He'll retire tonight, surely.

Now Pirazzi goes. The Italian climber has swept up Bonnafond and Duque - he will not work to reel in Oss and get the points for second place.
5km
Navardauskas has dropped Oss and looks like he will win this stage quite comfortably as he passes under the 5-to-go banner. Bonnafond is chasing Duque, but it will be merely a fight for places. Garmin look to have secured this much-needed morale booster.
5.5km
Back with the peloton, it's all Blanco on the front as they pass under the 10-to-go banner.
6km
Duque trails the two leaders by 2:32. Navardauskas sets the pace. He's the better climber of the two, but Oss is the better sprinter. So it all depends on whether or not these two riders get to the top together.

We're onto the final climb to the finish, the Cat.2 ascent to Vajont. It has an average gradient of around 5% with one ramp of 9% so it's nothing too testing.

Attack by Leonardo Duque of Colombia. The former Cofidis sprinter isn't too bad in the hills and he's trying his luck in pursuit of Navardauskas and Oss.

Sky's Salvatore Puccio edged out in front of the chasing group before being pegged back by Di Luca. The gap is now 2:05 and so they won't want to leave it too late.
11km
The leading duo have 1:50 over the other escapees, who include some strong climbers in Pirazzi and Di Luca. Ramunas Navardauskas wore the pink jersey last year after Garmin won the team time trial in stage four. This is Oss's first Giro.
12km
Gretsch has cracked as the road starts to rise. That's no surprise given his huge effort on the descent to open up a gap in the first place.
16km
Astana, BMC and Sky have all formed groups on the front of the peloton ahead of the final climb to the finish.
17km
Gretsch seemed to be caught unawares by the returning duo and he struggled to hold their wheels. The remainder of this stage is going to be rather hellish for the German.
