As for Jungels, well, he's entered the history books with that ride into pink...

Not a bad way of snaring your first pro win... Bravo Giulio Ciccone!

So after all that Bob Jungels (Etixx-QuickStep) will upgrade his white jersey for a pink - the Luxembourg national champion was in that Valverde chasing group and so takes over the lead from team-mate Gianluca Brambilla.

Then we have Movistar duo Amador and Visconti - but they're followed almost instananeously by the main pack of favourites, who are led over by another Movistar rider, Alejandro Valverde. Wow, the gap came down fast - we must have been given the wrong times along the way...

Atapuma takes third, Brown fourth and Cunego fifth.

Russia's Ivan Rovny (Tinkoff) comes home for second place, 42 seconds down on Ciccone.

Victory for Giulio Ciccone in his first year as a professional! What a ride from the Bardiani-CSF tyro.

Under the flamme rouge for Ciccone, who will win today's stage. It looked like he was working for his team leader Pirazzi, but he proved the strongest in the end.

Brambilla's work for the day is done and the pink jersey drops back. He'll drop down the standings tonight - and Jungels, his team-mate, won't be in pink either. Ilnur Zakarin is now leading the pack.
2km
Visconti is now slowing - probably to wait for Amador and help him extend the lead over his rivals. That leaves Cunego to ride in pursuit of Rovny and Ciccone.

Amador has caught Zoidl. He's 2:10 behind the lone leader so he won't get anywhere near winning the stage - but he has almost a minute on the pink jersey group and so the Costa Rican will move up into the maglia rosa today.
3km
Brambilla looks to be working for his Etixx team-mate Jungels, the man in white, because he's pacing the Luxembourg climber on the front of this main group of favourites. Both of their positions on GC is under threat by Amador today.

What a win this would be for 21-year-old Ciccone - although there's still a long way to go. He's being chased by Rovny, who is in fact ahead of the other four riders, not behind. The Italian has 33 seconds so it's looking good.

Amador has caught Silin from the break, while Brambilla is now leading the pack of main favourites... it's all happening. Remember that Amador has Visconti further up the road as well. Pirazzi has vanished and the chasing group is now Atapuma, Brown, Cunego and Visconti, with Rovny in pursuit.

The final Cat.3 climb to Sestola is 7.5km at 5% so no biggie. This will play into the hands of Ciccone.

Giulio Ciccone, riding his debut Giro, leads the race ahead of the final climb to the finish in Sestola. He has 2:10 over the pink jersey group and 10 odd seconds over team-mate Pirazzi and the new blue jersey Cunego.

Chapeau Brambilla! The Italian is back with the main favourites now - not only that, he's practically on the front of the group as they continue their pursuit of Amador...

CLOSE SHAVE: Steven Kruijswijk's rear wheel locks and the Dutchman runs into Rafal Majka on a tight bend. Amazingly, both riders manage to stay up and continue on their way!

Apparently Brambilla has made up time on the descent and is now only 10 seconds down. Impressive stuff from the race leader - who is not going to give up his pink jersey without a fight.
