AMAZING: Gianluca Brambilla holds on to the maglia rosa by one second to deny his Etixx-QuickStep team-mate Bob Jungels his chance to take the race lead. Dramatic scenes in Chianti!

Primoz Roglic (LottoNL-Jumbo) holds on for the win by 10 seconds over Mathias Brandle (IAM) with Vegard Stake Laengen (IAM) third at 17 seconds.

Gianluca Brambilla crosses the line after a titanic effort... he finishes an astonishing 2:05 down - which is quite a superb effort all things considering.

Zakarin cuts a sorry figure as he crosses the line a battered, bruised and bloody mess at 3:51.

ANOTHER CRASH FOR ZAKARIN! He went down on the final bend and he now has next to no material on his skin suit on his left flank.

Just two more riders now - Zakarin and Brambilla - on the road. Zakarin looked destined for the pink jersey but a mechanical and then a crash have dashed his chances in the rain.

Here comes Steven Kruijswijk and his broad swimmer's shoulders - and it's 20th place for the Dutchman, 2:23 down. Not bad there. He faded but still came home 1 second quicker than Valverde.

Valverde concedes 12 seconds to Nibali at the finish, coming home at 2:24. Bob Jungels looks almost certain he'll be in pink - keeping the lead in the Etixx family.

Nibali is 2:12 down on Roglic at the finish. The Slovenian former ski jumper will surely win today's stage - but who will be in pink?

Of course, we shouldn't discount that man Bob Jungels for the pink jersey: he's finished already and was only 45 seconds down on Roglic.

Chaves is 3:48 down on Roglic at the finish.

So, could Spanish veteran Alejandro Valverde be riding into the pink jersey today? Or will Steven Kruijswijk spring a surprise?

Shocker for Uran, who comes home over four minutes down - a terrible TT for the Colombian.

ZAKARIN MELTDOWN: It's bike number three for the Russian. He must have been pushing things after that mechanical because he's crashed, has a nasty gash on his thigh and knee, and needs to swap his steed once again. Pink is not but a dream for the Russian...

Estaban Chaves is 2:45 down at the third check - he started well but has faded. Nibali is the next man through... and he's slower than Mikel Landa!

Majka, his mouth agape, takes the final corner very wide before crossing the line 2:56 down in provisional 27th place.

Pozzovivo comes home a huge 3:39 down on Primoz.

Tom Dumoulin: "My legs were a little better than yesterday but I didn't want to take any risks with this weather."

Brambilla is 1:22 down at the second check so this isn't too bad for the little Italian.
