24 YEARS ON FROM PANTANI'S VICTORY ON GRAN SASSO
The late Marco Pantani put on an indomitable display on the Gran Sasso back in Stage 8 of the 1999 Giro to move into pink. He followed this up wiith his historic win at Orapa and then back-to-back wins at Madonna di Campiglio and - infamously - Aprica, after which he was unceremoniously booted off the race for doping offences while two days away from the overall win.

ALL EYES ON EVENEPOEL AFTER HIS DOUBLE CRASH DRAMA
The first summit finish of the 106th edition of La Corsa Rosa will be a huge test of the GC credentials of Remco Evenepoel. We know just how good the world champion is after his victory in La Vuelta last year - not to mention his string of successes both before and after. But the Belgian crashed heavily on two occasions on Wednesday's sodden stage to Salerno - and although he came through yesterday's loop race around Naples and the Amalfi Coast without any bother, over 3,000 metres of climbing will be a far bigger litmus test of his condition.

FIRST SUMMIT FINISH OF THE RACE AWAITS ON GRAN SASSO D'ITALIA
Ciao ragazzi! And welcome to live coverage of the seventh stage of the Giro d'Italia - the first mountaintop showdown of the race so far and a rendez-vous with the historic Gran Sasso d'Italia climb made famous by Marco Pantani's exploits of yesteryear and, more recently, Simon Yates.
Yates won in pink on the Gran Sasso in 2018 at the end of the opening week of the race that he dominated - before his implosion in Stage 18 at the hands of eventual winner Chris Froome. Today the man in the maglia rosa is Andreas Leknessund, who dons the tunic for a third day. Can the Norwegian from Team DSM hold on?
