POGACAR: I AM FULL OF EMOTION
It was a miserable day from the start, but we kept pushing hard with the team, at a good pace so we kept a little bit more warm. All day it was quite emotional for me on the bike, thinking of Urzka's mother [who died] from two years ago when we had to go home. And last year when I broke my hand. It has been a hard two years but I was riding for Urzka's mother. I'm really glad I can win this beautiful race again. Thanks to all the team who worked for me today. I couldn't have done it without them. I am full of emotion.
Today I had it in my mind to save energy but I was thinking about staying warm also. I had more layers on. The team did a super super job. We rode hard on the climbs, safe on the downhills and on La Redoute we did exactly what we said we would. From then on it was all suffering to the finish.
After these kinds of races it's super special to come to the line solo, especially in a national champion's jersey.

MATHIEU VAN DER POEL WINS THE SPRINT FOR 3RD PLACE
Possibly the biggest surprise of the afternoon. Maxime Van Gils almost comes a-cropper in the finish but fortunately everyone stays upright.

ROMAIN BARDET SWINGS AROUND THE FINAL TURN AND HEADS FOR SECOND PLACE
A great result for him. It's 45 years since a Frenchman won this race.

TADEJ POGACAR WINS LIEGE-BASTOGNE-LIEGE!
A seventh victory in ten days this season. A sixth Monument victory in not many starts more than that. Rob Hatch calls him "a Titan of our times". I can't improve of that.

FLAMME ROUGE - POGCAR CAN RELAX
It's in the bag. It's been as easy a Monument victory as you'll see. They knew it was coming and there was nothing they could do about it.
15:25
4KM TO GO - BARDET LOOKING GOOD FOR SECOND
All that stop-start stuff has indeed helped him. Looks like we might have a sprint finish for 3rd. Pogacar is going to win this by around two minutes.

5KM TO GO - VAN DER POEL ON MANEUVERS
Setting his sights on the Healy group to prevent himself from falling to his worst ever Monument result.

10KM TO GO - GROUP THREE GROWS TO TEN
But it looks like he's going to get swept up, as moves are made among the riders behind. The Frenchman might be better off easing up, but if they're attacking rather than cooperating it could be to his advantage.
15:14
12KM TO GO - BARDET DROPS HEALY BEFORE THE TOP
There's no chance of him catching Pogacar, but he's looking better and better for the podium.
15:11
13KM TO GO - SPLIT IN GROUP 2
Only Bardet able to stay with Ben Healy. As Egan Bernal attacks up the final hill of the day. Great to see him back in some sort of form.

15KM TO GO - AND THE SUN IS OUT AGAIN
Pogacar isn't letting up, not exactly taking the corners cautiously. He's onto the final official climb, the Cote du Roche-aux-Faucons.

20KM TO GO - THE RAIN STARTS TO FALL
And Pogacar powers on in his smooth trademark style. The riders in the Healy group are gritting their teeth and having to fight just to keep the gap from ballooning out to 2 minutes plus.
14:56
25KM TO GO - HEALY LEADING A GROUP OF THREE FRENCHMAN
Romain Bardet (dsm-firmenich), Romain Gregoire (Groupama FDJ), and Benoit Cosnefroy (Decathlon AG2R) are a minute behind Pogacar, 25 seconds ahead of the Van der Poel group.

30KM TO GO - ATTACKS OUT OF GROUP 2
The group had already grown too big to be effective, so Ben Healy looks to salvage what he can.
14:47
32KM TO GO - POGACAR WITH 25 SECONDS
Not to spoil it, but the ten behind are surely already racing for second place.
14:44
34KM TO GO - AND HE'S GONE
Carapaz can't hang on. His team-mate Healy is in the next group further back so they could find a way to stay in this between them.

34.8KM TO GO - HERE HE GOES
Who else? Tadej Pogacar attacks early, before the hardest part of the climb. Only Richard Carapaz can even remotely stay with him, and the Ecuador rider is doing all he can, wrestling the bike and out of the saddle.
14:41
35KM TO GO - UNDER THE BRIDGE AND UAE ARE BACK ON THE FRONT
Pogacar looks very comfortable as Stevie Williams does not, and is unable to stay in touch. More will follow.
14:38
37KM TO GO - 80KPH ON THE DESCENT TO LA REDOUTE
They're riding so hard, this has got to be it. Lascano is leading them into it for Movistar in the Spanish champions jersey, as they go over the river. Ben Healy is near the front, so is Toms Skujins, and Mattias Skjlemose through the twists and turns of the town.
