Primoz Roglic can "attack his big lifelong dream" of winning the Tour de France by leaving Jumbo-Visma for Bora-hansgrohe, according to Eurosport's Jens Voigt.
A report from Dutch outlet WielerFlits suggests that the Slovenian is on the brink of signing a two-year deal with the German team after confirming he would be leaving Jumbo-Visma.
WielerFlits claims the switch will be confirmed after Il Lombardia this weekend.
Roglic was a key part of Jumbo-Visma’s all-conquering team this year, winning the Giro d’Italia to add to his three Vuelta a Espana titles. However, the one Grand Tour that still eludes him is the Tour, which has been won in the last two years by team-mate Jonas Vingegaard.
Speaking exclusively to Eurosport Germany, Voigt said the 33-year-old has a better chance of winning the Tour by moving to Bora.
"Roglic hears the biological clock ticking," he said. "At Jumbo, the younger and, at the moment, also strongest rider, Jonas Vingegaard, will probably always be the captain.
"With Bora, on the other hand, he would be guaranteed the number one spot and could once again attack his big lifelong dream, the Tour de France.
“The change would make absolute sense for Roglic in the current situation."
Roglic suffered heartbreak at the 2020 Tour as Tadej Pogacar wrestled the yellow jersey off him on the final competitive stage, while he failed to finish in 2021 and 2022 after crashes.
Voigt also believes the move would naturally be of mutual benefit for Bora, adding: "Roglic guarantees you a podium, no matter where he starts. He wins very often. Such a rider is still missing at Bora.”
After much speculation about his future, Roglic revealed he would be leaving Jumbo-Visma ahead of last weekend’s Giro dell'Emilia - which he went on to win.
"I can confirm that I am leaving the team where I am now,” he said. “I will reveal all the other details after the end of the season, after my last race. Because now I am here with the intention to race, to do what I am here to do, and then the rest."
Roglic had been linked with a move to other teams, including Ineos Grenadiers and Movistar, but he seems set for Bora instead.
His exit comes amid news that Jumbo-Visma are in talks with Soudal-QuickStep over a potential merger for the 2024 season.
Roglic will likely race for the Dutch outfit for the final time at Il Lombardia on Saturday, a race he is among the favourites for.
