Rumsas: "drugs were for mother-in-law"
Rumsas' lawyer first told the French news agency AFP that Rumsas had missed a flight to Lyon where authorities await him. Now the attorney says that the Lampre rider who finished this year's Tour de France, awaits his ambassador's visit before returning to France. Rumsas' current whereabouts have not been disclosed.
Edita Rumsas was formally charged Tuesday with "management, offering, aiding and abeting in the use of performance-enhancing drugs." After leaving her husband on the eve of the Tour de France's last stage, she was caught by customs police in Chamonix with a slew of products, including "corticoids, testosterone, and EPO - both injectable and in the form of pills."
The 30-year old Rumsas finished a surprise third in his very first Tour this year. He's quoted as saying the drugs were for his mother-in-law in Lithuania.
