And the new-look top ten on GC - which sees Mollema, Yates and Quintana all drop further back... Valverde is out of the top five, too, while Porte rises to sixth.

Porte and Froome cross the line about eight minutes down on the winner, Zakarin - and Yates almost manages to catch them. Quite brilliant by the white jersey. Mollema comes over about 25 seconds later so there will be a small shake up.

Quintana is dropped by the other chasers. He's completely cracked. Yates has destroyed him.

Quintana rides in pursuit with Yates, Bardet, Aru and Meintjes.

Froome catches Porte under the Flamme Rouge. By far the two strongest climbers on this year's race...

Froome now attacks! Quintana and Poels can follow but Yates, and further back Mollema, can't keep up. The yellow jersey will extend his lead tonight.

Attack from Richie Porte! The BMC rider goes clear. Quintana tries to follow, but fails, while Aru gives it a go, but is pegged back by Sky.

Third place for Rafal Majka (Tinkoff) who comes home 1:27 down to add more points to his polka dot haul. Just behind him is Kristijan Durasek of Lampre-Merida.

Jarlinson Pantano (IAM Cycling) comes home 54 seconds down to take second place - three days after he won stage 15.

Ilnur Zakarin finally manages to do up his jersey - only just, mind - without falling over. And the Russian is all smiles as he approaches the line and punches the air with one first - he has nothing left to celebrate.

The question is - will Zakarin zip up his jersey? He tries but his bike wobbles and so he thinks otherwise...

Under the Flamme Rouge goes Zakarin, who will win this stage. He was always the danger man in the break and this will be a maiden stage win on the Tour for the 26-year-old.

Martin isn't making any headway and he's pagged back by Nieve and Poels, who will deliver Froome once again to the finish line without any troubles. It's getting rather boring for the neutrals, it has to be said.

Dan Martin attacks from the main pack and has a small gap as he sweeps past Tony Gallopin, who was in the initial break. Valverde has popped after his attempt to soften up Sky.

Lone leader Ilnur Zakarin rides under the 2-to-go banner. He has about 30 seconds now on Pantano.

Now Valverde comes to the front alongside the Sky riders. Kreuziger, meanwhile, is hanging on for dear life on the back. The attack comes from Valverde and he manages to shed Henao, who drops back for Sky. Poels and Nieve have it covered for Froome but this pack is thinning out quickly.

Zakarin has over 100 metres on Pantano now so it won't be a second stage win for the Colombian.
