The three chasers - Kwiatkowski, Quintana and Barguil - are just 15-odd seconds behind the leaders now, but the gap back to the peloton from Landa and Contador has been slashed to 2:15 with the flurry of attacks.

Bardet and Froome have attacked on the descent! Uran has it covered - and Aru is forced to respond.

With the yellow jersey pack crossing over the summit at 2:39, Mikel Landa is now just 16 seconds away from being the virtual yellow jersey. The Spaniard was 2:55 down on Aru this morning - and this is the worse case scenario for the Italian: he's isolated and committed himself to marking Bardet and Froome - but in doing so he's let some strong riders go up the road, and once those two groups come together, the gap may only get larger...

Contador takes 10pts over the top of the Col d'Agnes, with Landa just behind for 8pts. Barguil leads Quintana and Kwiatkowski over about 25 seconds down. So, the Frenchman moves on to 94pts in the KOM standings. His polka dot jersey is looking more and more assured.

Betancur has been dropped by this four-man chasing group of Quintana, Kwiatkowski, Vuillermoz and Barguil, the polka dot jersey. They're still 40 seconds down, with the pack another minute further back. Stunning scenery today on the Tour...

Right, out two leaders have 40 seconds on the Quintana chasing group and 1:38 on the main pack. Aru, the yellow jersey, is completely isolated - he has no Astana team-mates whatsoever. Froome has Nieve, with two others up the road, while Bardet has two with him here, and one - Vuillermoz - up the road, too.

Our two leaders - Landa and Contador - have 1:20 on the yellow jersey group. They are collaborating now. Initially, Landa chased down Contador to cover the attack - even though the Trek rider is seven minutes down in 11th place on GC. But now it appears that Sky are going to keep him there to try and win the stage. They have Kwiatkowski behind shadowing the attack from Quintana, who is four minutes down in 8th place on GC, while Nieve is still with Froome in the main pack. But should Landa get a few minutes today, then Sky would have a leadership conundrum...

De Marchi has been dropped so it's Spanish duo Contador and Landa who are in the lead - but their advantage is only 32 seconds on the yellow jersey group, which contains all the big guns in Aru, Bardet, Uran, Froome et al.

Attack from Movistar duo Nairo Quintana and Carlos Betancur! The Colombians are in need of shaking things up for their team - and they've caught Barguil, who has been dropped by the leaders, while Kwiatkowski is there as well, and Alexis Vuillermoz for Ag2R-La Mondiale.

It's hard to see what is going on because there are groups all over the road. Landa, Contador and Barguil have caught De Marchi. They have 28 seconds over the yellow jersey pack - and Froome is with them again after being distanced a bit on the last climb.

The descent from the Col de Latrape is done - and the riders are straight onto the next climb, the Cat.1 Col d'Agnes (10km at 8.3%).

De Marchi crests the summit in pole position with a small gap over three chasers: Barguil, Contador and Landa. Barguil was second and so adds 8pts to his tally. Clever riding from the polka dot jersey, who's up to 88pts now.

Chris Froome appears to have been dropped! The defending champion is surrounded by Sky colleagues in a second pack, with the likes of Aru, the yellow jersey, and Bardet in a group a few seconds ahead. Barguil has attacked - and so has Alberto Contador. And Mikel Landa as well!

De Marchi - who is free to follow his own ambitions now that team-mate Richie Porte has crashed out - is 1km from the summit and he has 25 seconds over the pack...

Sylvain Chavanel is back with Gilbert, but they're about to be caught by the chasers. In fact, as they close in, the Frenchman digs in to open up another small gap. Chavanel knows this climb well: he crested the summit of the Col de Latrape in pole position in 2004.

Riders are being shelled out of the peloton at quite a rate. Michael Kwiatkowski of Team SKy is setting a fast tempo on the front of the pack - in fact, he's ridden clear of the pack with Jesus Herrada of Movistar, and they've caught some of the chasers, such as Ulissi. On the front, De Marchi has ridden clear of Chavanel, who has in turn dropped Gilbert. But this is all happening in the space of 35 seconds...

Fuglsang is really in trouble - the Dane is struggling to hold the handlebars, with those wrist and elbow fractures. The problem for him is that going up is just as bad as going down - and there's a lot of that today, in quick succession.

Chavanel is setting the tempo on the front and Calmajane has attacked from the chasing group - so Direct Energie are playing their cards. The gap for the three leaders is just 34 seconds and so it could all come back together yet. On the back, Fuglsang has been dropped again.

The three leaders are onto the first climb of the day, the Cat.1 Col de Latrape (5.6km at 7.3%) which includes some segments of around 10%.
