It was quite the day for Britain on the final day of the Tour of the Alps, as not only did Simon Carr take the stage win with a fine solo breakaway, but Tao Geoghegan Hart also held on to secure the GC crown. In an added boost for the nation, Hugh Carthy finished second on the overall podium. Geoghegan Hart won two stages earlier in the week as he ended 22 seconds out in front on GC.

Stage 5 highlights: Geoghegan Hart wins GC for Ineos, Carr wins final stage

Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers) secured overall victory at the Tour of the Alps, as fellow Brit Simon Carr (EF Education-EasyPost) soloed to victory on the final stage.
Geoghegan Hart hadn't won an overall title since winning the Giro D'Italia back in 2020 but has appeared rejuvenated at this event, winning two stages earlier in the week.
Hugh Carthy (EF Education-EasyPost) made it a British one-two on GC, finishing 22 seconds down on Geoghegan Hart.
Australian Jack Haig (Bahrain Victorious) rounded out the podium in third overall.
Speaking afterwards, Geoghegan Hart said: "Another amazing performance today by the team, testing conditions and two tough climbs.
"It's not about proving anything, it's about winning the race and we're super happy to have done that.
"It's a beautiful race in a lovely area, little bit cold in the final today but really nice week and we're all happy with how the five days have gone.
"I'm really happy to have won this Tour of the Alps, I obviously have amazing memories from a few years ago when we were here [for Geoghegan Hart's 2020 Giro D'Italia win].
"It's nice to write another chapter in history with this race."
Carr had been part of the day's large breakaway group, but having made his move away from the rest on the Muhlbach climb, he was able to stay away thereafter.
Ineos brought Geoghegan Hart safely home in the pack at 4'28" down.
He also won the points jersey, while Max Poole (Team DSM) - another Brit - walked off with the young rider award.
Geoghegan Hart is likely to be in the field at the Giro d'Italia next month.
