So, the only change on GC was David de la Cruz dropping to fifth place at the expense of Wilco Kelderman after the Spaniard was caught on the other side of that seven-second split. Froome still 59 seconds clear of Nibali at the top of the standings.

Nibali, Froome, Kelderman, Contador and Roche all finished in the top 10 with Aru, Chaves, Woods and Kruijswijk just behind and granted the same time. Zakarin came in behind a split and so conceded 7 seconds.

No one had the power to keep up with the Italian on that uphill sprint - and in the end it was Gianni Moscon of Team Sky who took second place a couple of bike lengths back. Soren Kragh Andersen took third place for Sunweb.

Now it's Quick-Step again - and surely they're the favourites to take a fifth win today through Trentin or Alaphilippe. Meanwhile, Roche is back with the pack after his puncture.

Aqua Blue Sport come to the front with the towering Conor Dunne setting the tempo under the 10-to-go banner. 27 seconds for De Marchi now as Bora-Hansgrohe also make their presence known.

De Marchi continues his time trial to the finish - just 30 seconds now. It's a big ask for him - perhaps too big - but with 10 roundabouts coming up, he may do the impossible.

Puncture for Nicolas Roche of BMC - terrible timing for the Irishman, who will face a fierce battle to fight back on before the finish.

Then there was one: De Gendt is unable to keep up with his fellow escapee and De Marchi rides off alone in pursuit of glory. He has 35 seconds to play with.
