The Belgian holds off the chasers to take the win, with team-mate Trentin making it a one-two for Quick-Step ahead of Adam Blythe of Aqua Blue Sport.

Now it's Quick-Step time! The Belgian team lead the pack out of a right left-hander from a roundabout - and they've created some splits... six riders out ahead, one in pursuit, and numerous chasing groups ahead of the peloton...

Ian Stannard leads the pack up a nasty uphill drag - and Astana have sent two riders onto the front... it's going to be an interesting finale, that's for sure. This peloton is down to about 130 riders now.

Now it's Team Sky who are piling on the hurt on the front with seven riders setting a fierce tempo. There are numerous groups off the back of the pack, so perhaps they've heard that some of Froome's rivals have been distanced?

They're out of town now and the road is wide once again. Everyone's trying to sort themselves out and re-find their team-mates, with the front of the pack bunched up and the back all strung out.
12km
Now the Bahrain Merida team of Vincenzo Nibali come to the front. They've already lost Javi Moreno to a crash and they won't want any more disasters for their GC man, the 2010 champion.

The result of the intermediate sprint earlier on: 1. Matteo Trentin, 2. Marco Haller, 2. Daniel Oss.

Team Sunweb lead the pack through the twisting plane tree-lined street sof Narbonne. The roads are ridiculously narrow and there's a lot of road furniture - one wonders if the organisers ever recce'd this route at all...

Astana, Sky and a single rider from Bahrain Merida battle it out near the front now - many riders appear to have been tailed off the back of this peloton now and there will be losses today.

Orica-Scott have taken up the pace-setting alongside Team Sunweb as the peloton rampages past the town of Narbonne. The Italian national champion's jersey of Fabio Aru is present near the front.

It's a real battle for positions on the front now as all the big guns come forward ahead of the anticipated tense finale. A load of riders just lost their positions when taking the wrong side of a roundabout.

So, the intermediate sprint has come and gone - and doesn't seem to have been covered by the host broadcaster. We'll bring you the results when we know them!

Quick-Step and Astana now on the front - and it's getting very very tense. Now Aqua Blue Sport come forward ahead of the sprint. Orica-Scott are there too.

It's getting feisty now with the intermediate sprint coming right up. Katusha have upped the tempo and forced some big splits thanks to a bit of help from BMC's Oss and Quick-Step's Trentin.

We have the intermediate sprint coming up, which should spark a flurry of action. The Trek team of Alberto Contador and the Sky team of Chris Froome ride alongside each other to the right of the pack, with Katusha and LottoNL-Jumbo to the left. Behind you can see riders from BMC, Cofidis and Orica-Scott. They're riding along a long, flat, straight road that runs beside a canal.

Sky have a special "race hub" bus in this year's Vuelta - and it's something Sir David Brailsford doesn't want you to shove up your arses, to paraphrase the man himself.

Javi Moreno of Bahrain Merida has abandoned - and that's a big blow for Italy's Vincenzo Nibali, who has lost a key team-mate on day two. Moreno is having a stinker of a season: the Spaniard was kicked out of the Giro for pushing Diego Rosa off the road, and now he's crashed out of the Vuelta.

Lots of riders off the back of the peloton now visiting their team cars to pick up bottles and gels. Katusha and LottoNL-Jumbo are still the most prevalent team on the front, with the BMC team of red jersey Rohan Dennis right there as well.
