Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) was fourth at five seconds while Nairo Quintana (Movistar) ended up in sixth another second back. The gaps were small but they were telling.

Victory for Simon Yates of Mitchelton-Scott who punches his chest as he takes the win on this gravely goat-track of a climb. What a finish that was - and he'll be back in red tonight.

Pinot pulls through with Kruijswijk and Yates as they pass under the flamme rouge. Eight riders together before this final rise to the line. Uran is back, too.
1.2km
Lopez is refusing to do any work, which frustrates Quintana. And now Yates leads the chasers back on.
1.5km
Quintana accelerates and takes Lopez with him as the road flattens out a little. They have a 10-seconds gap now. Quintana will be in red tonight if it continues like this.
1.8km
Now Quintana puts in an acceleration out of the saddle but Lopez has it covered. They have a small gap - very small - on Kruijswijk, Valverde, Yates, Pinot and Mas. The two groups are about to join forces but the likes of Bennett, Buchmann, Formolo are well down, while Uran is about 30 metres back.
2km
The gradient is pushing 20% now as Kruijswijk is caught. Quintana and Lopez have ridden clear while Uran and Pinot have been dropped. No, Pinot is there with Yates, but they're suffering. Kruijswijk and Valverde are closing the gap.
2.2km
Kruijswijk is dancing out of the saddle now as Valverde leads the chase while looking over his shoulder. Behind him it's Mas, Yates, Quintana, Lopes, Uran, Buchmann and Pinot in that order.
2.5km
Kruijswijk is pulling off a huge coup. He's extended his lead but has he gone too deep, too early? The likes of Pinot, Kelderman, Buchmann, Formolo, Uran are still there behind, and Bennett I think. No Bennett, but Mas and Lopez.
3km
Kruijswijk has Carapaz and Valverde chasing with a third Movistar man, Quintana, just a bit further back and alongside Yates in a group of around 10 riders.
3.5km
Steven Kruijswijk has ridden clear as the pack explodes on this double-digit brute.

It's show time - we're onto the Cat.1 Alto Les Praeres (4km at 12.5%).

They're now on the short-but-sharp descent that plummets the riders down to the foot of this climb. It's twisting and perilous - and virtually all the big guns are here. Game on!
