Confirmation of today's top 10 with Clarke proving the strongest from that initial 25-man break.

Here's the moment Simo Clarky took the second Vuelta stage win of his career - six years after the first.

Led by Sky, the peloton crosses the line 4'55" in arrears to confirm the new race leader status of that man Molard.

And their manager is very happy...

The chasing trio come home about 10 seconds down - and Rudy Molard (Groupama-FDJ) settles for sixth place, but he will be the new red jersey because behind, the peloton has sat up.

The Australian takes an easy win ahead of Bauke Mollema (Trek Segafredo) and Alessandro De Marchi (BMC).

De Marchi, Clarke and Mollema in that order on the home straight... they will just hold on.

Under the flamme rouge and they're still playing the game. De Marchi comes to the front, Clarke looks over his shoulder and Mollema sticks to the back...

Just 22 seconds now for the chasing trio... if they're not careful this could be a six-way battle...

It's all De Marchi and Clarke for now with the experienced Mollema keeping his powder dry.

Meanwhile, the trio behind are now within 50 seconds with the pack another five minutes back...

Clarke goes long! The Australian decides to have an early pop - and it's De Marchi who suffers most. But the Italian closes the gap and then rides onto the front. The mind games are already in full swing...

Big dig from De Marchi but Clarke puts the fire out and Mollema holds on.

The chasers still trail the leaders by 1'05" but the gap to the peloton is still six minutes so it's looking like Molard won't end up empty handed.

De Marchi is momentarily distanced - probably paying for his earlier efforts. He fights back on but you have to fancy Clarke for the win.

The plain between the mountains and sea is a sea of plastic: this is where most of Europe's frut is grown under huge tents.

Villella is acting as elder statesman in this chasing trio - pushing De Tier in line and making him pull. But it's not going to pay any dividends. They still trail the leaders by 1'18".

Mollema, De Marchi and Clarke are approaching the end of the descent with a gap of 1'18" over the three chasers - and Molard appears to be really suffering with leg cramps. With the peloton still 6'15" down, his red dreams are not over - but they're in the balance.
