Hello and welcome back to live coverage of the Vuelta a Espana after yesterday's wholly unnecessary rest day. I mean, who do these riders think they are - swanning around Spain from coast to coast, it's what most of us call a holiday. What's more, there's only 32km on the menu today - which is peanuts...

The big winner, besides Yates, in the battle for GC is the Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk, who bounds above Colombians Quintana and Lopez into third place, now just 52 seconds down on the British race leader, with Valvede now 33 seconds down in second.

Joey Rosskopf (BMC) took second place level on time with Jonathan Castroviejo (Team Sky) - both riders 50 seconds down on the Australian winner.

Rohan Dennis (BMC) wins the 32km time trial - it was never really in doubt from the moment he rolled down the ramp.

A strong ride from Simon Yates, who crosses the line 1'28" down on Dennis - so he will move a further seven seconds clear of Valverde, and a heap lot more over his other rivals from Colombia.

That's much better from Alejandro Valverde, who comes home 1'35" down. So he'll take 45 seconds on his team-mate Quintana. Movistar have a decision to make...

Miguel Angel Lopez is next up to trickle over the line. His time is very similar to his compatriot Quintana's - 2'19" down on the winning effort of Dennis. He'll be down to fifth on GC.

Here comes Quintana and he's going to be over two minutes down... yes, 2'10" down. So he'll drop below Kruijswijk on the general classification today!

Now we await the approach of Steven Kruijswijk of LottoNL-Jumbo. He started out really rapidly, faded a bit, but has come home strongly for fifth place, 51 seconds down. Enric Mas was only 1'03" down which was impressive, too.

Thibaut Pinot is 2'11" down at the finish. The Frenchman was clearly on one of his bad days on the TT bike.

Superb stuff from Simon Yates, who goes through the second check 48 seconds down on Dennis. He'll not only keep the red jersey today but he looks set to extend his lead over his three principal rivals Valverde, Quintana and Lopez.

As for the Movistar duo... Quintana is 1'30" down and Valverde 1'03". Of course, this means nothing until their times are compared to the other GC riders - but remember that Kruijswijk was only 24 seconds down, that gives you a good idea. Yates' time will be telling.

Poor Lopez... he's 1'43" down at the second check.

And there's your answer: Kruijswijk clearly went too hard, too early - the Dutchman passes through the second check 24 seconds down on Dennis, so that's a swing of 29 seconds over the second third. It's still on course for a good time but it's not quite as promising as it had first seemed.

Enric Mas, who was 22 seconds down at the first check, comes through the second just 39 seconds down. That is a great ride from the young Spaniard, who is sixth overall but may be dreaming of cracking the top five come Madrid.

Here's Yates in his red skin suit - and he's 20 seconds down on Kruijswijk. So, that's three seconds faster than Valverde and 20 seconds quicker than his Colombian rivals. At this rate, Yates will hold onto the jersey today - but the next third of this ITT is key because it's where most riders lost time to Dennis. What will be interesting is to see how Kruijswijk fares at the second check.

Nothing to split both Colombians Quintana and Lopez who go through the first check 40 seconds down on Kruijswijk, who could well be on the virtual podium in half an hour. When Valverde comes through, he's 17 seconds down.

It really hasn't gone well for Kelderman, has it? The Dutchman came into this Vuelta with aspirations to make the podium but he's well over a minute down at the second intermediate check. 1'19" down to be precise.

It's only the fourth-best time for Michal Kwiatkowski who comes home 51 seconds down on Dennis' target time at the finish.

Wow! Steven Kruijswijk has gone through the first check five seconds quicker than Dennis! Either he's on a big day, or he's going to pay for his efforts over the next two phases of the TT.

Michal Kwiatkowski may have started promisingly, but he faded on the second third. The Pole still has the second best time at the check, but he's now 37 seconds down on Dennis, who must have had a ripping second phase of this TT. So, Kwiato drops from four seconds down to 37 seconds in arrears.
