Here's the unlikely top 10 in today's stage with Bennett doubling up ahead of quite a few unexpected names following that pile-up inside the final kilometre.

So, it looks like Valverde, Pogacar and Roglic went down in that crash... Luka Mezgec, one of the favourites, was one of the first to hit the deck. The Slovenian from Mitchelton-Scott looks to be in some worry. He's still on the ground being attended by doctors.

Max Richeze (Deceuninck-QuickStep) took a distant second with Tosh van der Sande (Lotto Soudal) in third.

Victory for Sam Bennett of Bora-Hansgrohe - and that's about as subdued as you can get. He hardly celebrated that as he coasted home alone after that huge crash took everyone else out.

Tosh van der Sande has gone clear for Lotto Soudal...

So many went down there but I think Jakobsen and Bennett and Gaviria avoided it...

One click to go - and there's been an enormous crash!

Now Trek have come to the front among the Bora and UAE riders. Can Fernando Gaviria get back to winning ways today? And there's always Marc Sarreau of Groupama-FDJ.

Wide road now but soon there will be a chicane and then that uphill ramp where the road narrows before flattening out.

Typically fast and furious as the jostling for positions begins in earnest. Bora-Hansgrohe have muscled in on the front for Sam Bennett, with Jumbo-Visma present and keeping Roglic out of trouble.

The road starts to edge uphill on that gradual climb into Oviedo. Just a few seconds for the four leaders now.

Fifteen seconds now. The carrots are almost cooked.

Remi Cavagna is on the front now - he zipped clear in the final 5km when Jakobsen won his first stage in the opening week. It will be interesting to see if QuickStep use similar tactics today. 20 seconds for the break.
13km
Diego Rubio has popped so the break is down to four, with 28 seconds on the pack.
14km
Six QuickSteppers on the front including the Dutch champion Jakobsen, who is one of the favourites for the win.

Another split in the peloton because of these speeds. It will probably come back together but if you're not near the front now, you're going to struggle. Just 35 seconds now for the five leaders.

Deceuninck-QuickStep still lead the chase with 20km remaining. There was a slight dig on the climb from Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) and Jempy Drucker (Bora-Hansgrohe) but Tony Martin (Jumbo-VIsma) reeled them in.

It's Vanhoucke who takes the 3pts over the top ahead of Puccio and Dillier. Tim Declercq leads the peloton over 40" down.
