Spain have named ten of the thirteen riders that will aim to defend Igor Astarloa's world title in Verona next week. They include two-time world champion Oscar Freire, and Alejandro Valverde, currently second in the Vuelta.
Santiago Perez, winner of both weekend stages of the Tour of Spain, is also included.
The others for the October 3 men's elite road race are Juan Antonio Flecha, Chechu Rubiera, Francisco Mancebo, Marcos Serrano, Isidro Nozal, and Jose Ivan Gutierrez.
Nozal and Gutierrez will also take part in the September 30 men's elite time trial.
Having the defending champion enables Spain to add an extra rider to the team so Paco Antequera gets three more picks to round out his squad which he's expected to name before the end of the Vuelta on Sunday.
