FIA ERC Junior Under 27 graduate Jari Huttunen has scooped his first outright overall stage victory in the FIA European Rally Championship, winning stage eight of PZM Rally Poland.
Hyundai factory development driver Huttunen, who was a title contender in ERC Junior U27 last year, shared a stage win with current rally leader Nikolay Gryazin on stage five earlier this morning.
On the 13.31 kilometres of Stare Juchy’s afternoon pass, Huttunen went a step further, setting the outright fastest time by 1.5s from Gryazin.
Huttunen’s performance was all the more astounding given he did not take part in any pre-event testing like most of his rivals.
Thanks to his first standalone stage victory Huttunen has finally made inroads on the Sports Racing Technology driver, reducing the lead gap to 12.5s.
