Chris Ingram says he must top-score in FIA ERC Junior Under 28 on Rally Liepāja to boost his chances of winning the coveted title.
Ingram is seven points behind Nikolay Gryazin in the championship race and in no doubt of the Latvia-based Russian driver’s pace after he won this event outright in 2017.

“We have to win this event, we need to just go flat out but that’s going to be an incredibly difficult thing to do,” said Ingram, last year’s Pirelli-supported FIA ERC Junior Under 27 champion. “We learned a lot in Poland and improved a lot so you never know. It was great to learn how fast our car could actually go, it was a great experience so we are looking forward to finishing the year hopefully on a high.

“This is still my first year in R5 and we are managing to bang in podiums and it’s impressing people. In Latvia it’s all about trying to win the title and be up with [Nikolay] Gryazin, but I can’t tell you how difficult that is because he is on world pace at the moment.”

If Ingram wins the ERC Junior Under 28 title he can choose a one-off drive in a 2016-specification World Rally Car on a European round of the world championship or a grant of 100,000 euros as part of an overall ERC campaign.
