Catie Munnings is in a prime position to secure an ERC Ladies’ Trophy win on Rally di Roma Capitale, as her chief rival Emma Falcón retired during midday service with mechanical issues.
Saintéloc Junior driver Munnings and co-driver Anne Katharina Stein faced an uphill battle after their pace notes were stolen on Friday, requiring an overnight rewrite from scratch by Stein.

They pushed on with new pace notes come Leg One, increasing their gap Falcón throughout Saturday morning.

Munnings was left to soldier on alone in her PEUGEOT 208 R2 when Falcón retired at midday service. The Spaniard had limped to the finish of stage four down on power, discovering both a broken gearbox mounting and turbo pipe.

Those issues could not be resolved during service, forcing Falcón to retire.

Munnings and Stein still needed to finish Leg One, which was made harder when Stein suffered a migraine during the afternoon loop, an understandable side effect of working through Friday night on new notes.

Despite being in pain Stein kept going, reading notes for Munnings at full speed and allowing both to stay competitive relative to their ERC Junior Under 27 rivals.
