Max Rendina will contest the FIA European Rally Championship in 2017, citing the “challenge” that a full-season campaign in the oldest international rally series will offer behind his decision to take part.
Rendina, 42, will pilot a ŠKODA Fabia R5 for the front-running Motorsport Italia operation with fellow Italian Emanuele Inglesi co-driving.
“I accepted the proposal of competing in the ERC because it’s a new adventure that motivates me a lot and allows me to challenge myself in a different context,” said Rendina, who began competing in 2001 and claimed the Production Cup section of the WRC2 series in 2014.
This season’s ERC schedule covers eight events on gravel and asphalt with the Azores Airlines Rallye hosting the opening round from 30 March-1 April. Rendina’s home event, Rally Roma di Capitale, takes place from 15-17 September. He has one ERC start to his name, Rally 1000 Miglia in 2012.
