South Africa made it to the knockouts as runners up in Group E, qualifying with four points. They started with a disappointing draw against Tunisia and then slipped to a loss against group winners Mali. But they qualified by smashing Namibia 4-0 on the final matchday, to leapfrog their opponents into second spot.

With Senegal having crashed out in a shock shootout loss to the hosts yesterday, it is the Atlas Lions who are now the favourites to win their first Afcon title since 1976.
