There is a very bright start from the European champions, but Ribery's backheel down the left just fails to reach Alaba.

Bayern Munich are level on points with Dortmund and one ahead of Leverkusen, so Pep Guardiola's team only need a draw to go top of the Bundesliga tonight,

Leaders Borussia Dortmund suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday, a shock 2-0 loss to Borussia Moenchengladbach, so the winner of the game in Leverkusen will go top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze is still on the comeback trail from an ankle injury and has to settle for a place on the bench.

Sami Hyypia's side have won all of their home matches since a 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich back in March and have lost just one of their last five home meetings with the champions.

Bayern have won their last six games, scoring 17 goals and conceding just twice. However, Leverkusen are in fine form themselves, and have only dropped points in one league game this season.

Leverkusen make three changes from the team that beat Sociedad. Philipp Wollscheid and Roberto Hilbert are out, with Omer Toprak and Giulio Donati coming in. Emre Can also comes in a 4-3-3 formation. Gonzalo Castro has a hamstring strain but is named on the bench.

Leverkusen also won in the Champions League in midweek, though it took a 92nd-minute winner from Jens Hegeler for Sami Hyypia's men to edge past Real Sociedad 2-1.

Bayern Munich make one change from the eleven that started against Manchester City on Wednesday. Arjen Robben drops to the bench and Xherdan Shaqiri comes in.
