OFF THE TOP OF THE BAR FROM ALEX! Lovely play from McGeady to drag the defenders in and play it wide with the outside of his boot and Alex smashed a curler for the far top corner but it didn't dip in time!
    11'
McGeady knocks it wide to Parshivlyuk who bombs down the right but with no-one in the box he tries a low shot that the keeper gathers easily at his near post.

That chance has brightened things up as Welliton chases a lost cause and almost forces an error from keeper Dubravka.

Spartak break as McGeady works it on to his right foot and flashes a rising drive just over the top right!

Rilke on the right gets into space and knocks it in low and Oravec misses it as it drops behind him and Majtan wraps his right around it but blasts the ball well over!

All a bit nervy as the home fans hiss and whistle with Zilina on the ball.

Makeev with a clumsy challenge on the edge of the Zilina box after a half-decent spell of possession for the hosts.

All a bit scrappy now as neither side are able to string three passes together.

Kombarov gives away a free-kick. It was his cross that went in off a Marseille defender to give them victory in the first Group F game.
    2'
After that early chance the ball has largely sat in front of the Zilina box, as the visitors pass it around cautiously. The gaffer wants them to play "aggressive, attacking football" but they'd do well to contain Spartak for a while.

Hapal: "I have played against Valeri Karpin before - first in Spain, when I played for Tenerife and he was with Real Sociedad. I remember him well, but doubt he remembers me. Then we met again in the UEFA Cup when I played for Sigma Olomouc and he played for Celta Vigo. We were both captains and I lost 4-1."

Zilina coach Pavel Hapal: "We played open football against Chelsea, as we have all season, and these are our principles which we will not change against Spartak. Spartak's whole team are very strong individually but I would like to single out two players - Welliton and Alex. They complement each other and they are real stars. Their attack is their strength but their defence is their weakness and I hope my players show how to break them down."
    17:20
Karpin: "I have not noticed any complacency in the team but I'm trying to emphasise to the players that our opposition should not be underestimated. There are more than enough examples of a team stronger on paper or in the eyes of fans or journalists losing to a team much weaker on paper."

Spartak coach Valeri Karpin: "There are no small matches in the Champions League. Although Zilina are less well-known than Marseille, Slovakia were in the last World Cup, unlike Russia, and recently defeated our national team - so there is another motivation for us. "
    17:10
After losing 22 Champions League games in a row, Spartak have won their last two in the competition.
    17:05
Spartak Moscow did not manage a single shot on target in their Champions League opener, the only team not to do so. Nevertheless, they still managed to beat Marseille thanks to an own goal by Cesar Azpilicueta (1-0).

Tonight's referee is Martin Hansson, who Aiden McGeady will be familiar with - he's the man who missed Thierry Henry's handball and allowed William Gallas's goal to stand for France against Ireland in that fateful World Cup play-off.
