Free-kick to Barca then, around 25 yards out, a touch to the left... Xavi to take but he spins it high and wide.

Rolfes hauls back Iniesta on the edge of the D and surely he will be booked. Yes. Nice one-two with Cesc to bring that about.

Looking at the replay that was some block from Gonzalo Castro! The half-Spanish defender somehow got across to keep out Cesc's firm finish.

Somehow Barca fail to score as Messi races through on the right, super save from Leno, the loose ball dropping to Fabregas but his finish blocked on the line by Castro!

Pedro is the latest Barca player caught offside as they seek an opening.
7'
Cesc is caught offside on the delivery though, straying at the far post.
6'
Barca keep the ball for two whole minutes until they win a free-kick 30 yards out to the left.
4'
Foul on Messi on the Barca left. They look to keep it short, as is their fashion.

Initially good defending from Alves but then he dribbles across the face of his own goal before eventually clearing under pressure. Risky.

A high ball is dealt with by a combination of Pique and Valdes. In the Leverkusen goal is Bernd Leno, no relation of Jay and a whippersnapper at 20. No Rene Adler, who has slipped out of favour since announcing he will leave the club.

Pedro almost gets on to Xavi's through-ball but the defender Toprak closes him down quickly.

@BhushanShah_ "Pique is an excellent defender, just going through poor form And that was not a red card. Has to step up in absence of Puyol"

You will note that the under-fire Gerard Pique starts for Barca tonight. His form has dipped alarmingly this season, some say because he is distracted by his newfound celebrity, and the shapely form of his missus, Shakira. What do you think? Our Barca-based mole Andy Mitten has his own view on things.

Robin Dutt (Leverkusen): "If we continue playing like we have done in the past few weeks then the results will come. Of course it's going to be tough to win 3-0 in Barcelona but I don't think it makes any sense to think about that. First of all we have to play a good game, there will be 4,000 fans coming with us to Barcelona and whether we get through or not we owe it to them to play well."

Pep Guardiola (Barca): "Some may take Leverkusen for granted and underestimate them. But we still have a lot of work to do to get ready for a team with a lot of height that with a corner kick can break open the knockout series."
