Good evening and welcome to LIVE coverage of Valencia against Lille at the Mestalla in this Group F Champions League fixture.

Finally the Italian referee signals the end of the night and Lille are relieved to hear that final whistle. A solid performance from Valencia who can kick-start their season with this result.

Lille can't get hold of the ball in these final minutes and the home fans are shouting Olé every time Valencia touch the ball.

Valencia are attacking as the seconds tick away, Costa blasting wide from outside the box as the French defenders wait for the final whistle to blow.

It wasn't a great atmosphere at the Mestalla this evening by any means as the home fans didn't turn up in numbers. Indeed it's still the away fans who have made the trip south who are doing the only audible singing. A good effort by them, shame the same can't be said of their team.

There seems to be no fight left from Lille who appear to be slipping to their second defeat in two Champions League group games. Valencia are stroking the ball around lazily and don't look bothered about searching for a third goal.

This could be a big ask for Lille now, they have had some bright moments this evening but their record at this level of competition is not great and their heads are down.

That goal was fortunate in the manner it arrived but it seemed on the cards as Lille were hesitating and making silly mistakes at the back. Jonas almost didn't celebrate as if to admit he didn't mean it.
