Leverkusen have looked rather dangerous on the counter-attack and go close through Son as he sees his goal bound shot well blocked by Mandzukic.
15'
Toprak collides in the air with Mandzukic and he is given a warning by the referee for doing so. The resulting free-kick is struck from range but Leno easily collects.
13'
Leno takes a long time to take the goal-kick, prompting complaints from the home side. Surely Bayer are not time wasting already?
12'
Atletico win a corner which is whipped in towards the near post but Leno rises the highest and punches the ball against the back of the head of Mandzukic and the referee signals for a goal-kick. The decision is met by a chorus of jeers from the home fans.
11'
The game is being played at a great pace with Atletico, as expected, showing the most intent, but no chances of note as of yet.
9'
WIDE! Koke loses the ball easily in the middle of the park allowing Bellarabi to collect possession and with only one thing in mind he screws the ball wide of the post. First attempt for Bayer.
7'
The second leg may just be as feisty as the first as the tackles are flying in. Madrid's Miranda is fortunate not to be shown a yellow card after swinging his arm back and catching Drmic.
6'
The hosts have started at a frantic pace - they're most certainly up for this.
4'
Simeone's name is being sang loud and proud from the home fans - can the coach inspire his team to victory?
2'
The Atletico players are showing a fantastic work ethic in the opening minutes of this match as they press their opponents all over the pitch, causing the German outfit to make mistakes.

KICK-OFF! We're finally underway. Stay tuned for an exciting 90 minutes of live (and exciting!) updates.

Simeone asked for a lively atmosphere from the home fans and he's certainly getting what he's asked for as the Calderon is rocking with excitement. Bayer are up against it tonight but can their stubborn defence survive? We are five minutes from kick-off.
19.35
The first leg at the BayArena proved to be an ill-tempered battle with the referee producing eight yellow cards and one red card. Bayer’s Spahic is a booking away from a suspension so will need to be on his best behaviour. We don’t want to see fouls tonight though, we want goals and it is the home side that needs at least one. Mandzukic and co will be aware of their opponent's record - Schmidt's side have gone 480 minutes without conceding, keeping five successive clean sheets (extra time included).

Roger Schmidt (Leverkusen coach): "The first-leg result was positive but we haven't achieved anything yet. Atlético are still favourites and we'll have to put in a big effort. We know Atlético are strong at home and a team with a strong mentality who fight a lot. We must keep cool heads and play to our strengths."
19.20
Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid coach): "Bayer are a vertical team, they play very direct football. They have great speed in their forward line – we have to avoid the situations we couldn't avoid in the first leg. Our goal is to win. We must be quick in the transition when they lose the ball."

Bayer Leverkusen striker Hakan Calhanoglu has been linked with Barcelona recently and he will be keen to make a good showing against their rivals this evening by adding to his goal tally of two in this season’s Champions League. The 21-year-old has had 11 shots on target in the competition, only Cristiano Ronaldo (20) and Messi (15) have more. Indeed, it is Calhanoglu’s goal which separates the sides from the first leg.
19.05
The visitors have made just one change from the line-up that earned the single goal advantage in the first leg as Kyriakos Papadopoulos is replaced by Omer Toprak. Lars Bender returns to the starting XI after missing out Friday’s 4-0 triumph over Stuttgart.
19.00
Diego Simeone has named his side and the inclusion of midfielder Cani has certainly raised a few eyebrows. The Spaniard has played just 83 minutes since he joined the club on loan from Villarreal CF. Elsewhere, Mario Mandzukic will spearhead the attack and if Atletico are to put an end to their dismal recent record in front of goal they will need their star forward at the top of his game. In terms of the defence, the suspended Diego Godin is replaced by José Giménez while Jesus Gamez replaces Guilherme Siqueria at right back.
